Andy Carr pre - map advice

As per title, will be booking my03 sti ppp in for opensource remap.

Ive just completed full service, new timing belt / pulleys , waterpump, crank sensor, engine coolant sensor, front lambda, maf, coolant etc

So, is their anything else i need to get?
new/uprated mapsensor, or is oem ok?
3 port solenoid, should i just get Andy to price one in or buy before hand?

Is it also worth having the 2 map switch?

Also to add ive fitted new green panel, pfr7b's, miltek centre pipe and deatsch werks 300 fuel pump..

cheers

Dan

Oil?

bludgod 27 June 2016 09:20 AM

it would be worth fitting a downpipe as well to get the most out of the map, the switches you'd be as handy getting fitted and mapped in now so you can chose to use them or not.

Was just going to leave the prodrive sport cat in to save switching around.

Right, I'll get the switches put in, not keen on the rear demist switch/ wot activation.

What's your thoughts on the map sensor, OK with oem?

banny sti 27 June 2016 10:29 AM

Map sensor reads to about 1.55 bar so unless you plan on running more than that leave it, 3 port boost solenoid would be nice as it will give you better boost control and I would fit the switches before hand as it saves time

What i don't like about demister activation is that apart from flooring it there's no way of knowing if its high or low boost :(

bludgod 27 June 2016 10:33 AM

that's the ECUtek 100% throttle map switch, with carberry it's just on /off so if demister is on your on the second map. Mister off and your on first map (or used for on/off of antilag which will surely end your PPP cat very quickly).

With the toggle switches fitted it will be the same you'll have clear on/off with the switch.

Can ECUtek be rigged up to work from another switch ?

bludgod 27 June 2016 10:40 AM

yes you can use cruise control if you have it - otherwise you just count the flashes when you switch maps - 1 flash on the engine light for primary map, multiple flashes (i think it's 8 flashes?) for the second/race map.

SmurfyBhoy 27 June 2016 10:45 AM

Mine has only one map with high and low boost,

Earlier 2003 car no cruise,

Yes, i am on ECUtek. My EML doesnt flash when i change from low to high boost.

But no way of knowing which of the two i am set at ?

Thanks for clearing that up!
I'll have to look at getting a de-cat, although I won't be getting launch control, anti lag etc

Can you not feel the difference between the two, do you have a boost gauge fitted?
Although not ideal, should indicate what map your on

Yes, obviously :lol1:

My point is without bringing it into boost,

No sign of which of the two it's in till you press the pedal and see.

:-) Not stating the obvious! Just wondered if their was not much difference between the two maps to the point you couldn't tell..

On my car a 2003 STI the ECUtek is one map I believe with two different boost targets AFAIK.

1 bar (actuator) and 1.7 bar

SmurfyBhoy 27 June 2016 02:19 PM

So until I actually bring the boost on I don't know which i am in :)

bro82 27 June 2016 02:21 PM

I can switch maps with I/C button, Auto I/C on high boost 1.5 bar, Auto I/C off low boost 1.0 bar

That sounds better as there's a little light that would let you know which you are in :)

bro82 27 June 2016 03:07 PM

Yeap, another advantage of jdm

All good i think! seems to activate on ecu explorer - 0/1 when engaged.
Really need to get romraider up and running.....

would a neutral pos switch issue have an affect on remap and in what way?

if the NPS isn't working then the AVCS won't engage so the turbo will be slower to spool and you'll miss out on some nice midrange torque. Don't just check at idle check it on a drive as well to make sure it's blipping 0/1 when changing gear too.

Didn't know that, thanks again.
As you say,I've only checked on idle.
I'll have a check when I finish work..
