Tough Dell

dpb 23 June 2016 04:24 PM

kind like my one , without the fancy grab handle

JackClark 23 June 2016 06:33 PM

I like them because I can use it as an underwater hammer.

What I don't like is spending all day getting it up to date, only just got to "Preparing for installation" Had a 173 updates to do before it would do the update.

Toughbooks,

bloody expensive, and still the screen is the Achilles heel lol

This is a Dell copy of a tough book, not as tough but cheap and tough enough.

It took until gone 10pm to finish updating, upgrading, updating. Other than that nothing too horrible happened.

I would have preferred a ruggedised Macbook but that wasn't happening, never try to use a Macbook as a hammer.

Ah if it's a hammer you want you really need an old Siemens PG 685 (although they're pretty niche in terms of application). 18kg of German programming goodness :lol1:

Jack, Have a peek at http://www.portableupdate.com

Seriously handy when you need to image a new machine (if you run and store the data on external media, say a USB stick) or just update an existing machine. Tends to avoid the thing where you have to install X updates ,reboot, then install the remaining ones, likely with another smattering of reboots required inbetween.

That's really handy as it looks like I may be getting a few more, thanks Marcus.
