No electrics exept hazards and saftey lights

I've got a 97 Impreza turbo ive just installed a fmic new turbo and injectors I went to start it on Saturday as it's going to Race Dynanix on Thursday for mapping and I get a big fat nothing not even an interior lights but I do have hazards and saftey lights:brickwall. The battery has nearly 13v in it I have checked all the fuses under the bonnet and by the dtivers side kick panel with a multimeter for continuity. I have not permanent live to the alternator and a continuity test on that revealed an open circuit. I did remove the neg terminal on the battery when I started to prevent any shorting out. It has a clifford concept 650 mk2 alarm and immobiliser fitted the car has done nothing but figjt ne all the way though this install what with broken bolts and studs rusty bumper bar loads of set back which has cos me the best part of a week. Any help would be great I'm in a bit of a panic as I don't want to let Duncan down

Did you check all fuses including the slow blow ones? Also did you check the fusible link.
These are all located in the under bonnet fusebox.

Are the slow blow ones the ones the square ones with the clear tops because there all intact. I totally forgot about the fuseable link I'm going to ba at the car in about 20 mins so that's the first thing I will check thanks

ossett2k2 13 June 2016 10:33 AM

Yes that's the slow blow ones.

if you have no live on the alternator lead and no continuity between the battery clamp and alternator then that con only be the lead to the battery or the fusible link. IIRC there are two positive leads going to the battery clamp; make sure both are connected and clean the connections.

Check for corrosion, they can corrode internally and break when disturbed...green copper oxide or yellow sulphur deposits round the clamp are a bad sign.

Also check the main earth cable...jump lead from battery negative to body, then try from battery to engine.

No breakers anywhere near you or alternately overnight guaranteed postage.

ossett2k2 13 June 2016 12:47 PM

On my fusebox cover it says 1.25 which is the wire size,80A i believe.
Maybe a local Subaru dealer can help?

Yea that's exactly what mine says with some of the other big fuses in there being 45A it could quite well be up that high when I stripped the shoud back the fuse wire looked like a wire from a household plug.
I've looked everywhere but my cars too old for main dealer in workshops to have any info to hand to quickly look up

I did find in my dads garage a fuse holder of which we put a 10A fuse in and arming and disarming the alarm which worked and we do have a interior light now so it looks like the link must have blown when I reconnecting the battery we haven't tried starting it yet rain stopped play and I had a school run to do

ossett2k2 13 June 2016 04:49 PM

Cool,at least you know the problem.
ICP are really quick with delivery usually,I've always received next day, depends on what time you ordered? If after 2pm then will probably come Wednesday, still in good time for your mapping sesh :thumb:
You must be looking forward to the remap, car will feel amazing after a good one mate :)

Any idea how you blew it? if you had disconnected the battery to fit the FMIC,
didnt want you to get the new one , fit it, and pop.

I think it was just old age and a spike with all the rain just recently it's been shut the bonnet and run in once the rain was coming down too hard even though we did dry off the terminal before putting it back on at the moment although it's at a different house so I'm unable to work on it at all times which is a bit of a pain in the arse
