Front end travel on Type R

Watching the videos back from santa pod the car is nodding like a dog during gearchanges so I'd like it stiffer. Shocks are sti reds with sti springs and these may be showing signs of age hence the front end travel but ride well on the road. I'm reluctant to change to coilovers as I prefer the ride quality of shocks/springs but the current ones do feel tired so I'm open to decent value alternatives.

I have 22mm front/24mm rear arbs, solid rear drop links, standard front drop links, front strut brace but thats it.

If anyone has anything uprated that would keep the car more level let me know

KYB agx - £505
Koni adjustable inserts - £600 + s/h struts + preparation/painting
KYB red inverted - £900

WR15R/T spring set - £290
Matching bump stops £50 or £55 depending on inverted or non-inverted.

FYI an anti-lift kit increases lift under acceleration.

Your bar sizes are too big. Your struts weren't designed to control sti spring rates + significantly larger bars.
In your case your front bar is 50% stiffer than stock. The rear is 100% stiffer than stock.
You're under-damped, causing excess heat = wear. Bearing in mind that, even with normal bar sizes, the inverted struts are losing performance from 50k.

Awesome reply mate. I was thinking about kyb's as i've run them on newage with good results. I have several sets of newage sti struts here including a pair of KYB rears with Tein springs off a blobeye, could I use them if I swap strut tops?

The heavier newage, with inverted struts, has different damping curves, springs, spring perch positions and ride heights, than the lighter classic.

You could use KYB excel-g struts - £240. But, you'd have to use lower rate springs, than those you currently have.

Hi typer99, I got a set of shocks and springs off mark, so I have donor KYB inverted reds if you want them, no charge just cover postage. In excellent condition as car was only imported end of last year.

Be good to see someone get the most out of them.

Nick
