Summer UHP Tyre for 08 WRX STI Hatch - 18's

Am a newbie here and did a quick search but didn't find any threads.

2008 Hatch WRX STI running on Prodrive GT1s, looking to buy 4 new UHP Summer tyres for fast road use in a hot climate.

Not bothered about rain, noise, economy, just want a nice grippy tyre that responds well on the car running 400bhp.

It currently has 225/40/18 but I think the size should be 245/40/18?

Thanks Nick

Hi
I have Yoko's on my wifes wrx during the summer and cheapo winters during the winter, but I have just put a set of Michelin PS3's on my nissan z and they have transformed the car, If I have to replace the wrx's summers ever again then it will be the michelin's lol
P.S. my wifes car runs on 225 wide tyres

This must have been covered before but I was surprised at the lack of responses for a pretty straight forward question!

The correct size on the 08 Hatch is 245/40/18 and yet most seem to run 225/40/180 which knocks the speedo out. Can't understand why people go 225/40 maybe I am missing something?

On 8.5 rims, 225's are pulled in slightly.

How do you find them?

STI450 15 June 2016 01:59 PM

I've always run PSS on my other cars but am new to the Scooby world.

Just finished scrubbing the release wax off them in the UK, car is waiting to come out to it's new home in Malta so will let you know once it gets here but car felt good on them.

Im after getting a sti hatch which needs new tyres.
its on 245x40x18. the 40 profile can be a bit low for some of the roads over here. i was thinking of going 45s for some extra comfort. what ye guys think?
will it affect the speedo too?
thanks

Eagle F1's on mine 245-40-18 , my speedo reads fine ,, good dry grip , but not so great in the wet imo , but that just adds to the fun aswell lol , they soak up the bumps fairly good aswell

Hi Raggy

what model bridgestone are you running? i used to run 40s on older car and always thought they were a bit too small of profile for country roads, not pothole friendly. not sure if 45 will raise the car to high?
thanks

I find the F1s to be terrible in the wet ! I find it quite easy to spin the wheels in the dry aswell , when trying too of course.

Yeah I agree , Iv had a lot worse but with over 500flbs of torque it doesn't take much to get all 4 smoking :norty:, will be trying somthing different when they get replaced but not sure what yet,,I haven't found them to be that bad as a all rounder but not as good as I was expecting ,,, got a hill climb on Wednesday at presscot and the first time it will be driven in anger properly since I got it so I'll give them a good test then :thumb:

I'm an extremely tame driver , but when i take the notion of pushing on the tyres seem to be the weak point. Let us know how you get on.

I don’t suppose you have a picture of your car on 225’s do you? I’m undecided if they will look too skinny on a sti hatch.
