Had them on a classic years back, one word for them sh1te. Way too stiff and bouncy for our roads and to be of any use when wanting to drive spiritedly

That's why I took the teins off but the rb320 suspension feels alittle bouncy over bumps so I want more better handling but not break my arse at the same time and retain my splitter

My Spec C had HKS Hypermax fitted when it came over from Japan. With springs at 16kg/mm it was ROCK hard. The solid rear top mounts rattled away too. Couldn't wait to rip em off

RAGGY DOO 02 June 2016 04:52 PM

Brother had them on a gtir he said fitted them drove down back road for some spirted driving the car was so hard first bump his head hit the roof so hard he almost went through it lol

goatblower 02 June 2016 06:08 PM

I had them on my classic for a week before putting the Koni adjustables & Eibach springs back on.
They would be fantastic for track use but as has already been mentioned were way too hard for road use.

Thanks guys your advice is invaluable decision taken
Any more options best suspension for road use? So I can keep my eyes open or atleast start saving for some, the more I drive the car I get more confident with the drive and the more I want to throw it about but I know my current setup will only take so much :)
All advice appreciated thanks :thumb:

The rb320 set-up is the optimum road suspension - you won't find its limit on the road.
Assuming your struts don't need rebuilding? - done more than 60k?
£100ish each for a rebuild at Bilstein.

Doesn't feel planted down enough if you know what I mean is there anything else you would recommend that is a good all rounder it feels light on B roads

You can't buy exetc coilovers for fast road/track anymore, only the Motorsport stuff at a great cost.
Unless you find some second hand and rebuild them at another great cost :D

Op, kW v3 was at top of my list, or even the blisteins b14/16.
But I'm thinking I might test the gt1 out as jerrick has offered me a no quibble offer.

You won't find anything quite like them though 😉and you are assuming that one actually paid for them to have a rebuild....

Cheaper than your gt1s that's for sure!

Oh an if enough people ask EXE-TC they are not obverse to making more....

The EXE-TC would be a good choice if I could get a set but then again ohlins sound good
Mmm how do I go about getting the ohlins? Any links please

banny sti 02 June 2016 08:56 PM

You can get Bilstein B14s for a newage (dont fit classics) for about 1k ish new, would be a good option for fast road use and they are complaint too.

trevsjwood 02 June 2016 09:14 PM

I looked at the B14's through Chevron and he pushed me toward the B16's.
I've gone for the GT1's as I didn't want to spend £2grand

Fud had the B14s on his sprint spec c and it wasnt far short of 500bhp and the handling was sublime, they were supplied and setup by chevron. Dont be swayed by the selling spiel of B16s, the B14s are more than good enough

Have you forgot that you actually told me what you paid? :lol1:

In your motto, if it's not fitted to your car everything else is sh1t. There's just noting positive with you is there?
Always defensive.

RAGGY DOO 02 June 2016 09:35 PM

Spoke Simon at chevron recently said the b16 performed better than the ohlins on a hatch they recently tested still got heart set on ohlins thou

Have you got them on? Or you waiting for order?
I'm not afraid of trying something new tbh, all the info sounds good on these and if they are sh1te then I'll say they crap and send em back, simple. But scooby owners tend to sway you away without even trying themselves.
On mlr I read a guy came 1st 3 times and all other reviews seem to be positive on other forums so, don't mind being a Guinea pig.
May even still opt for KWs yet.

fat-thomas 02 June 2016 10:31 PM

best suspension for road use is standard shocks and springs, i made the mistake of fitting coilovers when i had a blob sti and they were utter crap.

they were bcs and they are without doubt utter cheap chinese shonky sh1t.

take bannys advice above about the bilsteins

I told you how much a rebuild cost by them. Not what I paid, as I didn't pay squat for it :thumb: they still cost less even if I did pay for a rebuild than the gt1. But considering I didn't pay for it they were considerably cheaper..

Where did I say anything else is ****? I gave 3 options of which I would fit to my car. I refuse to fit **** to my car, so I'm hardly going to give him advice to fit bcs.... youre the one going on the defensive, I posted my experience and you started trying to pick holes in it :thumb:

I forgot about the blisteins, that's a good shout by banny too.

I'd avoid apex as they are not helpful at all if you need spares etc.

I placed the order on Monday, I don't know what the lead time is but with this and that, can't see them being on the car until well into July.
The price tag is about where I wanted to be, up from the BC BR range but not 2k, which others mentioned are if topmounts are included. The B14's are very slightly cheaper but don't have adjustable damping which for me did swing it. Very much personal choice.
The GT1's look good and have been developed from MeisterR's experience of what they already have, so that has reassured me.

Chevron consider the rb320 set-up, the optimum for road use. They can modify Bilsteins b14 to make them more compliant, for road use, but not to the ability of the rb320 struts.

@InTurbo
"When speaking to Simon from chevron I explained to him that I wanted a compliant ride that can handle bumpy fast road use. He said the b14s are good with excellent handling, but even with him customising them with more bump travel and softer low speed bump they won't be as comfortable as the rb320 Bilsteins and for a fast road use there hard to beat."
