Best Turbo Blanket / Heat Managment

What is best stuff to use for heat management in the bay,

I need Turbo Blanket to fit SC42
Wrap for headers and downpipe, (Up-Pipe already done)
Reflective wrap or insulation for inter-cooler piping,
Also heat shield for Turbo as stock one corroded. (Perrin is all i can find)
Any other thoughts/suggestions welcome :)

bustaMOVEs 31 May 2016 07:18 PM

Perrin/ptp type for turbo.
Dei titanuim for exhaust stuff.
Magma shield tape from thermal velocity for IC pipes.(I've just ordered some myself)

Dei heat products are the best!

Do you get a dei turbo jacket ?

I know the sc42 is gt30 based so what does that compare with as far as t3 ??

SmurfyBhoy 31 May 2016 08:12 PM

Also where is best to order the DEI stuff from. I see loads of cheap wrap when i search. Dei not usually £50

Want to buy the real stuff haha

joe v3sti 31 May 2016 08:13 PM

The problem you have here is most turbo jackets are designed for externally gated turbos, therefor using a them on an internally gated turbo can be tricky. I took my turbo to a local DEI dealer and tried a few on to find the best fit

Demon tweeks/JJC on eBay is a safe bet

Or have a look on thermal velocity website they have some good grade heat management stuff

I've gone with Ceramic coating for manifold, upipe, downpipe, exhaust housing and Grimmspeed heatsheild.

Zircotec wanted almost £500 to coat my 2 intercooler pipes.

I thought that was very expensive.

joe v3sti 01 June 2016 08:09 AM

The gains from coating intercooler pipes would be minimal to non existent

Much longer lasting than wrap on exhaust parts, probably no difference on intercooler pipes. However I would use the gold heat reflective tape from dei on the cooler pipes

It is expensive I paid £185 for exhaust housing, due to higher temperatures had a different coating and £150 for heatsheild . . .I'm sticking with TMIC so need to keep that from heat soaking. Didn't want to hack the front of my Classic STi Wagon for a FMIC . .so I think it's worth it in the long run.

No need to hack the front of the wagon out for an fmic.
Lateral do a fmic/rad combo that fits in the front of the car with no chopping needed due to its careful design

I have seen them on the lateral website but not much info on it no price listed either :/ . . .do you have that one fitted ? Got any pics ?

joe v3sti 01 June 2016 06:39 PM

Yep I've got one fitted, fitted so so well! Very well engineered bit of kit.
Air temps are lowest they've ever been on my car.

From memory price is about 1k-1200 but you will have to get your own intercooler pipes fabricated

Be interested in seeing some pictures of your engine bay. Do you have a rotated inlet manifold?

Steve Whitehorn 02 June 2016 06:00 PM

It would interesting if someone did a before and after test, Harvey Style, on that DEI gold wrap around the intercooler pipes.

lordharding 02 June 2016 06:20 PM

Any pictures of this dei gold wrap
As I like a bit of bling :D

Steve Whitehorn 02 June 2016 06:27 PM

As you can see
Once fitted , it is going to be very blingy!!!

gazney101 02 June 2016 07:34 PM

It looks great although I don't think it will have a big enough effect to justify the cost functionaly, as aluminium is great at dissipating heat to begin with.
Just my opinion but would love to see some testing as has been said

bustaMOVEs 02 June 2016 07:54 PM

Anything is worth 'try' to bring the temp down, even if just a fraction on IC pipes, it's not looks I'm after, bought it for purpose.
I can't back to back test it tbh, I can plug computer in, load a map and that's about it lol

Think I will cover the Intercooler sides as its looking a bit tired after 16 years and on the bonnet underneath where the vents are looking a bit discoloured and was going get them carbon dipped but the gold would bling it up a bit

Attachment 33559

Keep the suggestions coming

Best prices from anyone or are they all Similar

bustaMOVEs 02 June 2016 09:42 PM

Lol LH, you've got enough reflection with the under bonnet sheet :)

LOL. Mr Harding´s engine bay will now probably become totally gold, he will not be able to help himself.
I await the pics to surface in members gallery in a week or two :D
