shes here :)
rolled off the trailer and the bumper decided to do arunner, it's okay just snapped the clips . Phew!! initial assesment isn't to bad, will need the same done as i have done to mark's STI type R., but the shell underneath is solid. Front windscreen aperture has rotten away exact same as my STI has. rear windscreen surround has got a bit of rot setting in Rear arches are bubbling up, but still solid and a relatively easy fix to do when underneath is stripped bare brakes are all shot and missing pads. interior is in dire need of stripped out and cleaned ideally a full repray, however could get away with it for now once the rust around front and rear window's is sorted. clutch has gone and is seized to the fllywheel, however seems there's no big end knocking, sounds like clutch bearing has shat itself. so going to change the oil, filter and sump to make sure. BOOOST!! if it is shafted then hey ho not to bothered. Attachment 33620 Attachment 33621 Attachment 33622 Attachment 33623 Attachment 33624 |
Rb5 wheels i believe.
|
Thats cleaned up really well. you beat me to this car haha.
|
Rear quarter bubbling looks like it's taking hold. Will you be cutting out the arches? I'd like to see some pics as you make progress on this. Keep us posted.

Good luck with it quattroowner! |
Who ever used to own this should be shot. Great to see it getting some love again.
|
Interested to see what you're going to do with the underneath and engine bay. Good luck :)
Kind Regards, Subaru Collector 555. |
Got your work cut out there, poor p1. Will be following this
|
Always good to see a 2 door classic getting the right treatment instead of being scrapped. Good luck to you.
|
Cheers bud. Will be a lot of work but be worth it in the long run

It was stored away to get attention at a later date, wasn't the cleanest when I got it. Too many other projects resulted in the sale. The engine does have the death knock Tom, no hiding that issue, if engine was fine I dare say it'd still be in the corner "rusting" away for another year, its getting a refresh now so all good. Bang bang... |

Looked not too shabby when i had it on the road... |

Mine blew up as soon as I bought it but now it's back on the road and I'm out a fortune but I know it's good. And was definitely worth the heart ache! Good luck with the build buddy |
wow,i thought my 97 type r was bad underneath, holy ****,thank god we dont salt up our roads as much as the UK
|
Well the above previous owner a10ltr is avoiding my messages etc. Said there was service history. However conveniently been binned, also was supposed to come with 18" rotas. Tried to arrange swap over with the shot rb5 alloys it came on. No answer and now blocked me all way. Hey ho.
Nothing happened to the p1 so far. Going to make a spit for it sooner or later so can get underneath sorted asap. Anyone want 4 pots with discs and pads. Rb5 alloys and tyres .p1 bottom end bare. Ninja catback exhaust? |
Price on RB5 alloys please.
|
They need a refurb. Tyres got plenty tread. Just sat for a while. 300 ovno
Postage be 30 |
Ok thanks but just seen the tyres are lingalonga so no good for me but thanks anyway.
|
There a mix match of brands.bfeel free to make a offer minus tyres if you like
|
You'll have that all sorted for the show in August Tom lol
happy days and good luck with the resto |
Nothing has happened to this poorly p1.
Priced up all the replacement parts for the underneath ( oem everything ) had to sit down for that. Will all be as standard. Doesn't keep costs down but keeps it as original as possible |
Well finally a little progress has started. Brought the car home due to a lack of space at work
Both inner arches around the strut top mounts have totally shat themselves. Got a few meters of 0.9 carbon steel to make up some new ones. Before hand going to strip down the suspension for easier access with the shot blaster cut and weld new metal and re seal. Going to do one side at a time and take the time with it, don't want to lose heart with it being swamped in repairs required The windscreen is very loose all the way round, pretty scabby underneath, plan on removing it tomorrow and get a better look at the a pillars. The sills are in vgc considering, very solid and the 'lips' are still straight and unbeatable Will get some photos up over next week or so Will be mainly concentrating on getting the sti all roadworthy as it's all running properly ish now (maf issue) Settle myself a target of till March next year to get all welding done and 2 solid and clean shells :) |

what sort of money is in a p1 like this? And whats involved in sorting the turrets? And approx price to do such a job, as it seems like a common fault to the classics

Tbh I have no idea what it's worth as is. . Probably not a lot and certainly worth building and repairing correctly as resale value is only rising I'll be doing the rear turret welding myself. Already have materials here to do it. But for a garage probably 400 500 quid to do. I'll be replacing the rear arches as well so it's as solid as can be |
Well with the Sti nearly ready for the road after having new rear 1/4's done properly along with the sills. Partial respray until it's full respray next year. Can finally start pulling a few bits of the p1 and get a plan of action going.
Currently getting my shotblast set up finished up so plans are afoot to get this stripped bare and start with a she'll. After going threw it thoroughly the main concern is the shell Full new roof skin as front edge is rotten and soft Replace a pillar's as they have gone the same way as the stis and rotted threw Replace both sills and rear outer 1/4's Repair rear strut top towers on both sides as outer skin is a big hole Might seem a bit of a long list however it needs done and would like to have the shell 100 percent perfect, will be fully blasting the underneath over the winter However this car may not be as valuable as a original unwelded example it will be 100 percent solid and will last for next 20 years or so https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...79532f45cc.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...5a4aeb9102.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...af225ddabd.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...310edc45ca.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...3242069a1e.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...bef8ae1a60.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...9e0acfe5f4.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...7b70dee94b.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...ca5f1f886b.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...00c3376a19.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...9c87ed4fee.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...51a26f084b.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...644b06b2b0.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...25ece76e77.jpg |
Well that's the back end all stripped and ready to be smashed to oblivion by billions of angry bits of shot.
I've tried uploading a walk around video of the back end however YouTube is a nightmare. Diff all removed from the subframe, the frame is absolutely a death trap, scary to think how many others out there with the same problem. This car is a prime example of firing undersea over a unprepped chassis. Even if it's been power washed and left to dry . Applying undersea over a unprepped chassis only leads to hiding and allowing rot to thrive. With the likes of soda blasting nowadays being so gentle on metal, rubber, etc it's a no brainer to blast everything Overall very pleased. After a lot of smacking with hammers and screwdrivers there's no new holes or bits to be worried about. Even the inner sill at the back have solid clean metal!!!! Finally got YouTube to work and there should be vid here https://www.p1woc.co.uk/imagehost/image.php?di=LVDR https://www.p1woc.co.uk/imagehost/image.php?di=DN6L |
