Help identifying engine!

Hi, need some, can anyone tell me if this is a version 1/2 or version 3/4 block, the seller told me it was from a 95/96 but looking into it i think the versions changed between those years, basically any help identifying the year would be greatly appreciated lol.

Thanks a lot, Toby

Well it's a closed deck block and as far as I know they were only available on V1/2 cars??

As above - Center thrust closed deck block.
Version 3~4 came with open deck block from the factory.

Awesome, thanks for the help :thumb:

One last question, looking at putting it in a 03 wrx with a 2.1 stroker should i just pnp, cam and valve job the wrx heads, or is it really worth splashing out on a set of spec c big port heads?

Cheers

How much power do you want?

And more importantly. How much money do you have?

looking for a comfortable 500bhp, and just looking to know if i can really justify spending the money if the benefits aren't much.

cheers

Heads are the most important thing when fitting big turbo. When fitting a big turbo you move the power band further up the Rev range. So to rev more and flow more air at higher rpm you need bigger valves cams etc.

A decent set of heads are almost ands much as a stroker kit... id go avcs over size exhaust valves, retainers, springs etc, lairy cams and all the trimmings....

You can do it on standard heads easily enough, I did it on standard v3 heads at 550hp

You will need to have the rear thrust modification carried out on the crankcases to run the rear thrust EJ257 crankshaft if you are going down the 2.1 Stroker route.
STi Version 5~6 cylinder heads would suit your Inlet manifold bolt pattern and is a cost effective way of getting decent power.

Thanks for helping me out really appreciate it. I'm probably going to get enginetuner to machine the block in the next couple weeks so that will be the thrust conversion taken care off.

What would it ultimately take to get the big port heads and closed deck to work in the 03 wrx?

And i'm looking at going with 92.5mm pistons, is there any real benefit in going 93mm?

Cheers, Toby

Is your CDB on standard bores at the moment? I'm running 92.5mm Stroker pistons in my 2.1, Works out at 2124cc.

Go for 92.50mm as it will give you a 'second chance' with the block if things go t*ts up in the future.
