Hawkeye bumper(slits)

Subaru guru's help required, what are the 2 slits either side of the number plate? Some hawks have it and some don't. Any ideas? 2 friends have hawk spec C's one blue one white and the blue one has the slits.

thought it was for brake cooling diverting some air over the front discs. :wonder:

jazzyjembreaze 24 May 2016 09:24 AM

Impossible to vent brakes from that location
If anything , extra flow for air con & pas cooler /

jazzyjembreaze 24 May 2016 09:25 AM

But more than likely just a cosmetic re- touch

BrownPantsRacing 24 May 2016 10:25 AM

They make it go much faster!

fat-thomas 24 May 2016 10:41 AM

It could be UK spec thing to cool the hg

The Pink Ninja 24 May 2016 04:43 PM

Is one an MY06 and the other an 07, as there are a couple of subtle differences between the two, rear lights being one and steering wheel being another

BrownPantsRacing 24 May 2016 05:09 PM

My MY06 has them.

jazzyjembreaze 24 May 2016 07:42 PM

Pretty sure all Hawks are MY06 regardless , the latter ones having a few re- touches but still
Chassis MY06-/ MY07 are the first Hatches
Quote me if I'm mistaken chaps !!

My Hawk is a 55 plate, does that make it a MY05 car?

UK car and has the slits

could be :thumb: Unfortunately dont have my MY06 anymore and for some reason didn't take a picture under there :D

However, for homologation may have been necessary to fit to road car .

what is it doing in this application?

http://www.s22b.net/impreza/wrc/06/foto/max/4.jpg

jazzyjembreaze 25 May 2016 02:57 AM

In that application it's induction wich channels ( kind of like a hood extractor ) direct into the front mount intercooler wich sits on top of the engine at the tip of the bonnet .

No captain jack , your car is MY06, , first Hawks came in on 55's

In reply to both MY (Model Year) is determined by the 10th character of the VIN and has NOTHING to do with the year of registration.

The Hawk comes in MY06 and MY07,(and MY08 for the Middle East - destination code KS and Israel E2)

http://clarkdh.net23.net/NTL/G11%20model%20year.JPG

the Hatch arrived in late 2007 as MY08.

jazzyjembreaze 25 May 2016 12:55 PM

Thanks for that Don
Yea I know it has nothing to do with first registration date as my Hawk is first registered in Feb 2009 / as that would make it MY09

Rusti 25 May 2016 01:05 PM

Mine is a MY06 and has the slits, I dont believe they go anywhere, that said its a spec D

The Pink Ninja 25 May 2016 01:19 PM

My MY06 Spec C has them

Rusti 25 May 2016 01:20 PM

Also anyone know what the bottom side vents are for on the hawk, brake cooling ??

gc8simon 25 May 2016 01:23 PM

My 2007 non turbo hawk that was imported from south malta originally has them too. Could it not just be a prefacelift - facelift differance?

jazzyjembreaze 25 May 2016 02:33 PM

This might sound daft , but I'm swaying more now on the thinking its to limit number plate vibration ( reverb ) against the bumper itself causing chatter noise at speed / stock number plates are quiet long & def flex right at those points .. This would cause the trapped air to filter on through reducing the reverb :)

BrownPantsRacing 25 May 2016 02:37 PM

I suspect you're over-thinking it somewhat. :D

jazzyjembreaze 25 May 2016 02:40 PM
