Greatest Football atmosphere of all time?

"Leeds United have the best fans" lmfao.
Tom Lees says the play-off semi final first leg win over Brighton at Hillsborough was by far the best atmosphere he has experienced.
Owls fans literally lit up Hillsborough to create amazing scenes in front of the live Sky Sports cameras and roared Wednesday on to a crucial victory.
The Owls now head to Brighton on Monday with a 2-0 lead and reflecting on the events, Lees said:
“It was absolutely unreal, it was the best atmosphere I’ve played in by a mile
“A few of us were talking after the game about when the lights went on the phones all around the stadium. It gave us goosebumps.

Hillsborough
“At one point, when the whole stadium was bouncing, I could see on the pitch the flood-lights in the stadium were actually moving.
“It just shows how much noise and how much passion the fans have because they were physically moving the lights. It was unreal.”

Awe-inspiring.

I know Leeds United fans always get crowned the most passionate and loyal, but Wednesday fans surpass them imo. We always get bigger home averages and take just as many away. Every game is treated as a cup final.

Got any proof of those claims? Season on season we get the highest average attendance

You claimed it. So wheel out the proof of your highest attendances.....

Burden of proof and all that. You claim it, you prove it

fat-thomas 15 May 2016 12:09 PM

Another false claim.
Derby Brighton and borough had higher attendences

JGlanzaV 15 May 2016 12:25 PM

I presumed as much Thomas.....

Interesting reading thats for sure, Leeds are struggling at the moment, and the poor attendances show it, but thats due to the moron in charge...

Erm...

Attachment 34436

Might be slightly harder for you to prove Sheffield take more away than Leeds year after year.

JGlanzaV 15 May 2016 12:40 PM

Matthew, you claimed it, I called bull****. Like usual, you were proved wrong.

As I said, attendance is down, I know i havent been going due to the moron in charge, normal service will resume when we get some one with some morals in charge.

It's a Classic 15 May 2016 01:04 PM

Can't beat an old firm game for atmosphere!

Erm.

I claimed, tongue in cheek, Sheffield always get bigger attendances and away followings than Leeds and thus Leeds best fan reputation is undeserved. How does your link in any way highlight Leeds as consistently having the bigger home gates?

Daft buggers.

Just been having a look at Championship attendances through the ages, Leeds and Owls are pretty much 50/50 in all honesty, Newcastle averaged 43,000 in 2009/10 which is pretty impressive.

Steel City derby ftw!

I always though the Leeds v Wednesday derby deserved more interest but tbh they've never been that passionate. It's rare either side comes close to filling the away end when it's been fully allotted.

SmurfyBhoy 15 May 2016 01:47 PM

Clearly have forgotten about the old firm :)

alcazar 18 May 2016 10:12 AM

Best atmosphere I've ever been in was at Hillsborough too......

24/01/1970, FA cup fourth round, Sheffield Wednesday 1, Scunthorpe United 2.

They were old First division, we were old Fourth. Kevin Keegan was playing for us.

Steel production in Scunthorpe hit a record high the next day, which has never been bettered.

+1 there just nothing like it :)

Last year when Wakefield scored a try in the last tackle of the game to stave off relegation takes some beating, never seen celebrations like it.

Old Trafford 2009 against Man City when united won 4 - 3

Rob_Impreza99 20 September 2016 10:13 PM

I can only comment on a game i've been too, the champions league final in 1999 when United beat Bayern Munich 2-1. The atmosphere was unreal when United equalised in the in the 90th minute, the Nou Camp was rocking quite literally and when they got the winner 2 mins later iv'e never heard noise like it.

I was gonna mention this. Remember it on TV vividly. Was round mate's gaff and one mate was an avid MU fan. We were going mad when 'Terry' ;) lol and The Baby-faced Assassin worked their magic. Incredible.

Do you remember that black Bayern player repeatedly banging his fist against the ground in disbelief...like something from a cartoon LOL.

That was Sammy Kuffour.

When Bayern Munich were getting their losers medals Lothar Matthaus threw his on the floor and walked off.

Surely when Arsenal beat Liverpool in the last minute to pop them to the title in 1989..."Thomas, charging through the midfield... it's up for grabs now... Thomas, right at the end!"

Still the best finish to a league title season ever
