Engine build
 

Hi guys,

Havent been on here for a while. My Type R has developed a considerable amount of end play in the crank so i can only assume the thrust bearing is on its last legs. Ive stopped driving the car now for nearly a year in a bid to not make the engine a total paperweight. I picked up myself an old 93 EG Civic SiR in summer last year, which I've actually been throwing my love and attention to instead of the Subaru unfortunately.

Ive been weighing up my options when it comes to engine spec. Im looking to try find out what the standard V4 STi pistons can take provided they are in good condition, power wise. Im looking at uprating the rods to something a little beefier as we all knock classic rods arent the best. Bearing refresh on the standard crank. I understand this situation could change depending on the condition of the parts after I've stripped down the block but will that setup safely hold over 400 bhp?

Might seem like a bit of a budget build in a way but i dont see the point in throwing thousands at and engine if the above will show the same results. The other option is also a newage short block.

Ideas would be much appreciated.

as above, Version 7 scdb from a jdm bugeye, bolt on your heads/inlet/ancillaries, job done.

I suggest using OEM new age sti rods with forged pistons. This set up will be able to handle 400. If you're planning over 400 then I'd be considering forged rods too.
I wouldn't take a chance on the original pistons.

T20C spec c block good for 450 but have been proven to go 500bhp or a bit more on standard interals thicker walled capable of taken more boost .
