CEL on 02 Bug

Hi
Sorry if this has been answered but I can't find it with a search,
my wife has had her 02 bug WRX for 6 years and no hassle but now due to her ill health and now unable to drive I have to sell it but the CEL light has just come on (typical), I bought a USB scanner for this model and hooked it up but it just returns an error, unable to connect, so I bought the Android one that was recommended on previous threads on here and that also errors when trying to connect to the cars ECU, I've looked for loose pins or ones pushed back into the socket but it looks ok to my old eyes, I was hoping for some help if people have seen this before and can assist or maybe have some suggestions to try,
Thanks in advance.

what app are you using to read the codes ?
also which leads are you talking about ?
I`ve never had a issue reading codes with the VAG(Blue) leads and a laptop/netbook,
I have found the torque app to be hit and miss,

can I ask your location, you may find a local member who then may be able to pop and read the code for you if all else fails.

Hi
Yes it was the torque app, but the actual device had a red led light on it saying "err", the other cable I tried was this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Imp...EAAOSwiCRUhZpp conected to my laptop and the software I tried was FreeSSM, ROMRaider and some other like CDM or something, sorry,
I'm in Lanarkshire and I would be grateful in beer tokens if someone would read it for me
P.S. the car feels fine, if maybe a little sluggish? Always run on V-Power or momentum

Just an update on this, Smurfybhoy scanned it for me and 5 mins later had the code, a big thank you, nice car too!! He refused any form of payment and is a really nice guy.
Code was P0031 and it looks like I need a front O2 sensor.

at least the forum can work, not just full of spammers and trolls,

Buy a genuine sensor, not a cut and shut one,
Denso is the sensor of choice from the factory typically.

http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/part...y=&searchPart=

That's what i bought when i fixed mine :)

Also happy to clear code again if it doesn't go out when u change it.

(Try leaving battery disconnected overnight to reset ecu 1st)

Hi guys, yes the forum works perfect! Its hard to kill the a community, no matter how many trolls there are.
You guys must have read my mind, was just reading up on the sensors and every Subaru forum says buy the denso and not anything else.

just incase anyone else finds the thread - the USB ELM cables won't work with romraider/freescan etc. as they need a vag com (KKL) lead. But it should have worked with an ELM based application if you had one (obdwiz etc.). The bluetooth ELM327 and torque app should be grand as well i've used mine a few times on subarus with no problems.

Hi
Just thought I would update this, belated but better than never.
I installed the sensor list above and CEL never went off, next day it went off on its own, then it came on and off a couple of times, its now stayed off now, so thanks to the all the help I got here.
