mmmmmm clutch.
I've recently been able to smell burnt clutch on my Hawk WRX. It drives fine, isn't slipping but obviously that shouldn't be happening. Is a certain level of clutch smell normal or is this the sign I need a new clutch? Any advice/thoughts would be awesome. :thumb:

Whats the mileage on the car mate? What power you running?

Well assuming you aren't riding the clutch, then any clutch smell can't be normal really. And it's definitely not slipping when you put it in 4th/5th at lower speeds and boot it to load the clutch up?
Has it just recently started doing it? When do you get the smell - when pulling away in 1st? |
Aha, not tried the slip test thing you suggested I'll try that on my way home and let you know. It's only just started doing it and the smell is not when I'm pulling away in 1st it's more after a bit of a burn but when I do go out in it I let it warm up before booting it and not doing any crazy launches in 1st or things like that.

Clutch smell
Is it when you pull away normally or when you give it a launch?
|
I'd say after a fast acceleration (launch)

You do get some clutch smell from time to time on a HEAVY launch, try sticking the car in 3rd and pulling away

Ok cool, will try that. Cheers
