Starting issues since new injectors

I had some new injectors fitted to my blob sti a few days ago and since then I having trouble starting the car. It turns but takes quite a few seconds and presses on the accelerator to get it going. It seems like its not priming quite right maybe?

Once it starts it runs and idles fine but defiantly different before they were fitted. Any ideas or easy things to check?

Thanks,

I've had the same problem the whole time I've had my blob sti, be curious to see the outcome of this one. Mine has taken up to 6 or 7 seconds before to fire up, but then is fine.

I was told when questioned it was down to the injector timing on large injectors?

How long have you had yours like that?

Mine didn't do it before which is why I questioning it as worried it may just not start one day soon. It was remapped straight after the injectors were fitted so assumed timing etc would have been mapped to suit them.

My car has been exact same since i fitted my 800cc ones.

Like ur saying 5/6 turns but always catches. I find it helps to giv it a bit of throttle.

Only since having it mapped with new turbo and injectors.

If car is warm it starts fine.

Good to know and gives me abit of comfort. I had a new turbo, up-pipe, downpipe and 740cc fitted and as you say if warm starts fine just the last few cold mornings, cheers

Shouldnt touch the throttle on an injection car. That will cause starting issues.

malevolent_sti 29 April 2016 02:19 PM

I've had that the whole time I've had my UK STi, I found not using the throttle helps. It was doing it on the standard pinks, continued to do it with the new large injectors too.
My first thought was vacuum leak, or fuel pressure but they both checked out OK. I hoped after the car was mapped it might be cured, but nothing changed in the starting department.

Yea,

Wouldn't worry bout it

Just out of interest what horsepower are you guys running pre and post your injector upgrades? ?

I'm looking to upgrade mine soonish to 650cc injectors to make it over 400 bhp. Just wondered what you guys are running in terms of mods to injector size, and is it really worth it.

Thx in advance

Cool what modifications does the car have now for 400 bhp and what did you have with the 330 bhp ?

Any dyno print outs ??

Both times car was mapped at Andy Forrest.
Only had it on dyno with previous turbo. Delta dash showed 352 but rolling road says 335.
Current delta dash says 427 so going by how out it was last time i guess 400odd.

At 330 had vf35 at 1.5/1.6 bar
Hdi frount mount with custom pipes
Walbro 255
550cc stock pinks
3" decat full exhaust

Now i have
Same as above with
Gtspec headers
Harvey uppipe
800cc power enterprise injectors.
SWRD 340 fuel pump
Sytec fuel pressure reg
SWRD 3 port boost solenoid
JDM Spec C Map sensor
Turbo is a bit of a hybrid.
An sc42 rebuilt and machined at owen developments with bigger wheel and upgraded bearings etc.
This is at 1.7bar as the Spec C map sensor allows ecutek to go higher than 1.5 bar.

I have a pic of the two delta dashes its on my profile sumwere have a look or i will try add.

As you can see its a trade off between bottom end and top end.
Next steps forged bottom end with bigger displacement. Wake it up earlier.

This is the proper rolling road session i had. Should have another over next couple months.
Note its also with 2 loose spark plugs 1 year from delta dash figures

Nice thx for that.

The reason I ask is because I have just had a session on the dyno, the first run peaked @410bhp but had to be pulled back due to running to lean.
The session eventually finished on 395/352 with a very powerful drivable car.
My tuner stated that to get the desired 400+ bhp I should upgrade my injectors.
Just considering is it really worth the cost.

Thanks,

I've just had the 850 injectors cleaned and flow checked and now it struggles to start when cold, not what I'd expected at all. No idea why as yet. Like you, once it's warm all is well.

JohnD 01 May 2016 11:07 AM

Always the possibility of one or more injectors leaking fuel while there is still pressure in the rail after switching off. Raw fuel present when re-starting from cold may foul one or more plugs.
