Gumtree selling wtf!

Decided to sell the wagon and thought I would try
gumtree. All I am getting is emails with just a offer
or phone calls from people in Birmingham and Bradford.

I am assuming they are all scammers/time wasters?

For reference I live on the west coast of Scotland so hardly
think anyone is going to drive 500 miles round trip to buy it especially
when I have searched for cars nearer to their location and found
loads for sale.

Peedee 26 April 2016 12:33 PM

Meh, standard Gumtree stuff. Heard so many bad stories from people selling stuff on gumtree, ESPECIALLY cars. Could be genuine but I doubt it.

ccsimpreza 26 April 2016 12:51 PM

Yeah **** using Gumtree.

Lad I know sold his brand new iPhone on there got got given all fakes for it, another had 5 lads come round to view his celica than started carrying on when he wouldnt let them drive.

kingofturds 26 April 2016 12:53 PM

Jap cars do tend to attract the wideboys from the Bradford/ Leeds area. I had people offering me half the asking price and wanting me to then pay for the car to be transported to Bradford from Cornwall.

sunny1989 26 April 2016 12:55 PM

same, I had nothing but time wasters when I put my clio 172 up on there..

U.S air force officer stationed overseas wanting to buy it for his disabled grandma who lives in Uganda.. that kind of crap..

Raptorman 26 April 2016 04:27 PM

So one guy is asking the same questions over and over but
all the answers are in the advert and he says he will buy it
and is happy to travel over 4 hours each way to buy it sight unseen!

I am assuming that when it comes to the day he is supposed
to "pick it up" there will be some sort of problem and can I wait
until he can arrange another day to collect.

Dvddan 26 April 2016 04:33 PM

I guess its not a good place to sell a car then.will try Piston heads I think

gazney101 26 April 2016 08:55 PM

Gumtree is terrible for scammers, mate of mine was advertising his Mondeo on there and someone claiming to live in the Canaries wanted to have it shipped there, he needed my mate to arrange a courier for it so sent my mate a fake PayPal receipt of the asking price plus 400 quid for the courier that was meant to have been sent to his account and asked that he would send the 400 to an account that belonged to the courier via some sort of bank transfer, so he sent it and no further contact was made lol 400 down...
He phoned the police and the woman was sniggering on the other end hahah what a donut. I think it turned out to be someone from Nigeria or somewhere like that

Marco.Singh 26 April 2016 11:58 PM

I've had decent luck selling on Gumtree but of course there will always be a handful of time wasters unfortunately.

One tip I would recommend which helps is that I only include the telephone number as a form of contact and click 'no' for email. That stops people emailing stupid questions. Good luck :)

Full of chancers, waste of time. You would have less hassle going down to the local travellers caravan site and trying to sell there. Any time I tried Gumtree I had an army of texters trying to force the price down in text speak.

hedgecutter 27 April 2016 07:59 AM

Any selling site is hard work these days, but it`s generally down to the "Buyers", not the site. There`s alot of dreamers about, who like the retail therapy of pretending to buy, following the style of tv programs where it`s all down to getting a bargain, beating the price down.
Most viewers of stuff up for sale dont even consider that you have changed your plans for them, spent hours tidying the item up, and hung around for them.
I sold my wagon 2 weeks ago, advertised on ebay classified and pistonheads; no replies at all on Pistonheads, first to view bought it.

Same kinda experience, Sold the old daily a few months back on GT. 4 Romanians turned up followed by a further 3 a few minutes later, they were all over the car! 2 under the hood, inside, outside, was like a clown car!

They all started crowding round me when we were talking price thinking i was going to crumble. Cheeky ****ers!

Diddnt like it when i raised the price :lol1::lol1:
