Driving off boost until mapping?
 

Hey people, I have a td05 16g and pink 550cc injectors to go on my 03wrx, is it a big no to drive the car at all until mapping or am I safe to keep off boost? It has been tuned already but on the stock td04 and 380cc injectors running 270bhp

Avoid driving it really unless its to check for any leaks.
I only took mine to fill up with fuel then left it till mapping day as didnt want to drive with new turbo and injectors etc.

im pretty sure its mixed opinions as ive read on here that ppl have drove to mapping place off boost.. i dont know the correct answer though sorry

with a standard map you get a little more leeway - but on an already mapped car that changes things quite a bit. The injector size difference isn't huge though so you should be fit to drive it to your mapping day but I wouldn't be out cruising in it every day until then.

Thanks for the help people, my mechanic is about 15 mile away so would need to drive it back home from there, then my mapper is about 15 miles from me. So would be roughly about 30 miles driving unmapped. It does scare me as I have terrible luck haha

Will run like **** but feather the throttle and avoid boost,
I kept mine below 2500 all the way there,

As my Injectors were 800cc I found when I would come to a stop the engine would stall but start again no problem.

My mods were Gt Spec headers, Harvey uppipe, 800cc injectors, new Fuel pressure reg,
New SC42 turbo, 3 port solenoid and a JDM Spec C map sensor, SWRD 340L/PH fuel pump

Got there in one piece no problem !!

I have the same dilemma at the mo, got myself a vf34 and 550cc pinks to stick on me 06 hawk wrx, been mapped b4 running the standard injectors and td04 turbo plus green cotton filter, walbro 255 and full haywood & scott de-cat, i face an hr trip each way to extreme scoobies to have um fitted and then a longer trip to get it mapped again

I should also say that Andy Forrest says turn the fuel pressure down to 2 bar using my FPR.

Guessing to compensate for the size,

Just be gentle and don't wake up the new turbo,

You may also get an engine management light on,
ECU senses fueling is out,

Nothing to worry about as long as you are careful,

Oki, I'll keep revs right down and take it easy, I have a boost gauge fitted so hopefully that will help

you know the hawk should already have larger injectors so really you should just be fitting the turbo and driving it to the mapper off boost.

Yeah i did wonder about the pinks when the standard hawk ones are bigger anyway, but a lot of ppl seem to use these as a mod looking into it

Thought only the Sti had the 550cc+ injectors?

My 03 STI had pinks in it 550cc i believe
The later Hawkeye STI had slightly larger again.

I'm not sure that the Hawkeye WRX had them tho ?
Can anyone confirm what injectors are in the WRX Hawkeye ??

I thought the hawk wrx had the blue injectors 565cc but could be wrong lol i only picked up the pinks coz they came as a combo deal with the vf34

in 2.0 engines only the STI had the 550's, when the 2.5's came out wrx and sti had the same size fitted so you can sell those pinks on and offset some of the cost of your turbo.

Going by the attached sheet i found,

Hawk WRX Light Blue 380cc
Hawk STI Dark Blue 565cc
Bug/Blobeye STI Pink 550 cc

So Hawkeye Injectors are the best stock you can fit pretty much

they'll do for an STI turbo fitted to a WRX without having to swap them out. If your going for a bigger turbo (with pistons/headgaskets/rods or whatever) then something bigger would be needed.

Yea, so good for sub 400, unless pumped up with a FPR,

So my wrx hawk will have light blue 380cc injectors going by that, so the pinks will still be an upgrade if thats the case

According to guy above WRX & STI Hawkeye use the same ones.

I only found that attached page when searching, dig around on google and it seems theres no difference so yea you wont need those pinks if yours is a hawkeye,

Yeah I'm a bit confused.com now lol, i thought id read somewhere that the pinks were needed as a mod to run with a bigger turbo, but haps that was regarding a blobeye rather then a hawk

no need to be confused, you need pinks on a 2.0 wrx - if you have a 2.5 WRX then you dont need the bigger injectors unless your turbo is massive. The WRX 2.5 has the same injectors as the STI 2.5.

Quick question then, the pinks i picked up came from rogerclarke motorsport and cost 340 quid coz the bloke gave me the paperwork, flow tested/matched with new seals so like new, would these still be a better option then the ten yr old injectors currently on the car? is the much difference between 565cc and 550cc? and don't say yeah about 15cc lol

Personally,

Id go for the fresher ones,
Although if you can sell the pinks for £300 odd go for it,

that would be a question better put to whoever is mapping the car, personally the injectors you have already installed will suit the turbo you've purchased so I wouldn't go to the expense of removing them to fit the pinks.

Yeah will av a chat with me mapper, end of the day pinks were only 150 so dint break the bank lol bloke i got um off only had um on his forester for 1500 miles and got un from RCM in august 2014 so aint done much work
