Introduction - First time Subaru owner

Hi folks!

Thought I'd introduce myself, I'm Tom from Billericay and I just picked up my first WRX all the way from manchester on saturday. Was a heck of a journey but made it back with no problems at all.

The car itself is an 03 Blobeye WRX wagon, 107k on the clock and she's not heavily modded (what I wanted!)
Currently sitting at circa 270bhp with the following mods:

- Supposedly mapped, but I've no way of telling.
- Decat
- K+N Panel filter
- 1.1 bar boost
- strut brace
- Forge VTA bov

and that's it! I'm not new to JDM motors, having built 3 MR2 Turbo's over the last couple of years putting out a fair bit of unicorns under the bonnet, so I've had a poke about around the bay as some sort of orientation and I think I'm there!

The car is in pretty good condition for age, today I've sorted out a few niggles (sqeaky seatbelts!) and restored the front lights as they've been clouded by the sun. Tightened a couple boost line clamps in the bay too as they were loose.

She needs new disks up rear and has just had new pads up front. It's just a case of going over it and sorting bits as I find.:thumb:

Plan is to keep it looking stock, I like the sleeper look with a different set of wheels on there eventually! Roof racks gone on too, that's the reason for jumping ship with the MR2's, wanted space but didn't have any!

Anyway, couple of pics to follow and it'd be good to meet up with you all eventually too.

Reason for the carpet is a small weep coming from the oil cooler o-ring, new one ordered with some fully synth 5w-40 and a genuine subaru filter.

Amen to that!

Looks like a lovely car mate, and I'm a fan of the yellow fog lights 👍

parker455 07 April 2016 09:53 PM

Thanks mate! Think they've been stuck in at a later date, who knows. Got a clutch and waterpump to do now on it, any reccomendations where to go around here?

Heard Extreme Scoobies in Boreham is good, but also the place on the 127 at bonville farm? Would be ideal taking there as I could pick it up after work.

Cheers!

LoganS 07 April 2016 10:04 PM

Since I got mine last year I always go to Paul at extreme scoobies for anything beyond my capabilities, he is good but think he has been extra busy lately. If your changing clutch then get him to exchange your flywheel for a skimmed one whilst your at it.

Haven't heard of the other place but that's not a bad thing. I'm sure others on here will have used them.

parker455 07 April 2016 10:14 PM

Thanks mate much appreciated, I'm pretty good with everything but if it needs the belt off to do the pump etc then seems like it'll be a drop the engine and everything in one lump. Not sure how involved the subarus are with this but that's what we used to do on the MR2's when doing a belt/clutch.

Gives an excuse for new coolant and replace any gaskets/seals whilst it's out too.

I'll trundle up there tomorrow and see what they can do.

LoganS 07 April 2016 10:41 PM

Belts not to bad, can remove rad fans and get access, not sure about the water pump but don't think it needs the engine out.

LoganS 07 April 2016 10:46 PM

Subaru engines used to scare me but everything is methodical and not that bad. I don't know them inside out but I'm learning as I go. I've got all the repair manuals in pdf if you need any bits from them but there's a lot of files.

Hiya and welcome

parker455 09 April 2016 10:40 AM

Thanks guys.

Turns out its the stat that's leaking, I've just done the oil cooler O ring too and that's now leaking again.. Making me think the sump is spitting oil out..

The joys of motoring!

LoganS 09 April 2016 10:53 AM

Is it over filled with oil?

LoganS 09 April 2016 10:56 AM

Oil cooler must be an add on is it? Didn't think any blobeye came with an oil cooler.

parker455 09 April 2016 11:32 AM

Not over filled no, gave it a full service at the same time of doing the cooler o ring.

Oil cooler sits just above the filter with a 24mm bolt bolting it to the block, which then allows the filter to thread onto it.

Do you mean a sandwich plate? Allows sensors to be used for oil pressure/temp. etc

If you guys ever consider upgrading the intercooler to an STi item let me know?

No he is on about the oil modine. More of an oil warmer than a cooler though...

parker455 10 April 2016 07:00 PM

@Essexdon - Lovely machine mate, do love a wagon! Half tempted to take my sill covers off though!

Yes it was the oil modine - Will have another check when I change the stat and see if it makes a difference.

Recovery Ray 10 April 2016 07:45 PM

looks very clean - enjoy!.

with you on taking the sill covers off , or maybe colour code covers.
