6 speed starter bolts
On my 5 speed gearbox i had a threaded stud which the starter motor slid over, tightened with a nut and a bolt going through the other hole in the starter.
On my 6 speed gearbox there is no stud, just a hole.So would I be right in thinking I can use a bolt through this hole and thread into the block or do i need to fit a stud? Thanks in advance. |

Depends on the block, if its early up to V5, there is no threaded hole in the block, or enough material to thread one.

You can fit a 10mmx1.25 timesert into the engine side of the g/box bellhousing, or helicoil it with a M12 helicoil & fit an m12 bolt & open up the starter hole to suit, I have seen the g/box fitted with an M10 nut countersunk into the engine side, plenty of other ways really.

Is it possible to do this with the gearbox in? I didn't realise it would need modifying for the starter before we put it in :freak3: |
I think i just ran mine with one bolt and it was fine for years. Not ideal i know.

Ok, cheers guys.
Looks like I'll helicoil then, don't really want to be pulling it back out again :/ |
