6spd conversion into classic

Considering using 6spd......I know that will need box, prop and diff, anything else I will require?

Can I use my current shafts? (r180 type).

Have dccd so if I get a box with dccd is it a case of plug in or more difficult?

Are there any other modifications to consider i.e. clutch slave cylinder position or fitment issues?

What is the gearing on 6spds like? I like to use the car for dragstrip and use uk 5spd ratios....how will 6spd compare in general?

How are they for durability/power tolerance vs ppg?

iirc to put a DCCD box into my 98 Type R I had to get
Gearbox
Rear Diff
Rear shafts (came with box but not sure if there were used)
Prop
Front shafts had to be changed (originals had different splines on them iirc)
DCCD is plug and play
Transmission tunnel was slightly modified to make sure the gearbox didn't hit it although this isn't generally necessary but the guys who did mine did it because they've had a few that have touched and caused issues).

Can't help with drag strip advice though but have a look on here or YouTube as there are loads of videos that show launches etc

6 speed is a heavier set up than a 5 speed but is stronger. A JDM 6 speed would be a better option as the gears are a lower ratio than the uk type. Also check what the box came from, 2.0 or 2.5 as the 2.5 is a lot longer than the 2.0 i believe.

Personally i run a 4.4:1 PPG 5 speed with kaaz 1.5 way front lsd and R160 cusco 1.5 way rear lsd, and find it ok for drag runs, crossing the line in 5th if short shifting at around 6-6.5k rpm. The main concern is the launch.

What is your current set up? Power and torque? You say you have a R180 rear already? What final drive is your current box?

V5 STI Type R. Current setup is uk geared ppg, dccd, 3.9 rear diff/final drive. 450/400. Cross the line in 4th due to gearing which is perfect and why I used the uk geared ppg instead of jap spec which the car is.

What terminal speed and time you doing? 450bhp 400lbft?

For your v5 type r you will need box, diff to match box, prop, front shafts or stub axle kit which is easier to save swapping front shafts etc.
Rear shafts will be fine as yours is 180s.
And basic starter motor is using 5/6 speed fly/clutch. Pnp or manually wire the 2 wires on box for dccd if plug don't fit, mine didn't so manually wired.

3 options for box afaik.
1. Jdm, all short ratios (mainly 5th and 6th)
2. U.K. Box all same as above but 5-6th longer
3. Hawk 2.5 box, 2-6th longer.

Haven't had the car on the strip since the box was built. On the sti box with 400/370 had late 11s with 112/115 terminals. Had to change up to 5th.

Are they stronger than ppg? Also are the front shafts or kits best to use?

The 6 speed have known to be stronger yes, some have broke ppg in a 5 speed casing.
These are the kits, however it maybe if using a 2004on box in your car http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/part...y=&searchPart= my box was from a 2005 widetrack.
Best to check box when you get it to make sure it's got female ends and front shafts are female too.
