The pro is relatively heavy I guess but even so

JackClark 26 March 2016 12:34 PM

Fair bit of discussion here https://www.reddit.com/r/cycling/com...d_to_be_true/?

Very risky purchase.

dpb 26 March 2016 12:49 PM

Lifetime frame warranty
Long way to return it though

JackClark 26 March 2016 12:53 PM

More risky as in you back it and it never arrives.

Buy 2015 Boardman 50% off retail. One question has your lad stopped growing yet? Bear that in mind

7.9KG!!! I know nothing about triathlon bikes, and only a little about road bikes. I have a Trek road bike which is nothing special in terms of being lightened down (the seat post, forks and bar stem are CF) it weighs in at a few grams less than 8Kg. I would expect a full CF frame bike to be lighter than the stated 7.9KG.

Personally I would never buy any bike I hadn't had the opportunity to put a couple of miles on, its one thing in terms of fitting right, but wouldn't you want to know what it feels like, you know, how it steers, is it twitchy or does it feel loose at the front.

Lots of boasts about engineering effort and tech on the website, then it shows aluminium pedals befitting a BMX from the 1980s.

Personally I wouldn't risk it, but it may just be the best bike I have never ridden.

like iphones / every other phone - everything is Chinese baked

I guess its the warranty they provide after that

dpb 26 March 2016 09:56 PM

aero is better than relatively heavy also , unless youre marco pantani

dpb 26 March 2016 10:09 PM

Fair point - I did just over 20 miles yesterday along the coast, mostly against a fairly stiff headwind, on my mountain bike (back injury is keeping me off the road bike) - Marco Pantani I am not.

There is no point in being too critical about weight. All decent Road, TT, CX bikes weigh 9.5kg or less. Bear in mind that it's the total weight of rider+bike+kit+water bottles. So saving 1.5kg is nothing in percentage to total weight. I used to add 2kg of water on long rides and didn't notice it.

A good comfy position as Aero as possible for TT or tri Athlon is best. I have found the praying mantis works for me on TT. It allows me to be as Aero as I can get whilst comfortable and allows me to keep my power up.

Boardman air 9.0 TT 2015 or 2016 are a great base for adding deep rim wheels.

dpb 27 March 2016 11:54 AM

Andy , you can get stealthx with 60mm wheels for similar price

JackClark 27 March 2016 12:08 PM

I'm getting knee pain after 50k, have made some more adjustments and will try again otherwise have any of you had a bike fit? How much was it and was it worth it?

dpb 27 March 2016 12:33 PM

Coud just have overdone it Jack ?

i

dpb 27 March 2016 12:39 PM

As little as 130 £ ,

a little bit after the horse has bolted though isn't it ?

JackClark 27 March 2016 12:52 PM

Maybe, new bike, new shoes and pedals, usually stick to about 25k at a time. £130 is well out of my price range for a fit, I'd want a full day's work for that :) I've raised my saddle a touch and moved it back a bit, will give it another go.

diy .

maybe one for road bike as well?

JackClark 27 March 2016 06:01 PM

Lots of good info there, pretty sure my saddle was too low, will find out next ride.

We should start a Cycling thread, plenty of riders here.

warrenm2 27 March 2016 06:10 PM

Being a good cyclist is about riding up grades not buying upgrades....

dpb 27 March 2016 07:49 PM

That's true , and correct fit beyond all of it

Mine would be 9.2 if I took off the stuff you need for a 25 mile ride ( repairs)

nowadays could spend the same ( 900£) and get an 8.2 kg somewhere , sell old for few hundred . Need a bit of help up the hills in old age :p

I use heel on pedal at bottom of rotation, leg must be almost straight nearly locked out This will give you a very close to near perfect seat height. Adjust a few millimeters either up or down over several rides. Record this height for future reference

Straight out of the bike shop I knew it was too low, upped it a bit, got sore knee so did the heel thing and found I could up it some more. The pain I have at the front is often from too low seat so fingers crossed.

i wonder how far fetched it would be to have planet x stealth for road and tri , and just swop drop handlebars fro tri bars when needed

too much hassle du think ?

It *could* be as simple as snipping the metal part cables after the gears/ brakes and undoing stem bolts, swopping drop for tt setup.

SJ_Skyline 29 March 2016 02:49 PM

Nice looking bike! :)

You need to check that the reach and stack can be adjusted for both setups. Cable adjustment will be an awkward exercise swapping setups. Also it says can take 23mm tyres, wow, only 23mm. If you're a big rider 23mm isn't going to cut it. You need a more versatile basis for a bike.

The handlebar setup for tri to Road is always going to be awkward. For convenience an Aero Road bike with di2 shifting. Bolt on clip ons plug in, 5 mins job done. I have Di2 on my CX bike and use clips ons for TT, easy peasy. In fact I leave then clip ons because I find the position quite comfortable and it allows me catch the pack when getting dropped. I can pick up 1-2mph speed on the clip ons

dpb 30 March 2016 08:49 AM

That would certainly be the easiest /cheapest way Andy .

I guess its 23 max cos its designed for aero . I was hoping to pension off my road bike , bought 25mm and discovered they wouldn't fit - certainly not with mudguards anyway !
