Newbie Alert!

Hi ESOC!

Thought it best to introduce ourselves, we are Scott and Sam out of Southrnd and we are new and fairly proud owners of a rescue '92 WRX import, nicknamed "Barney". On account of the colour scheme. There's a lot of work needed to restore him to his former glory. Over the years the previous owners have chopped, cut and Frankenstein'd this poor V1 Import. One thing we have wondered about this car is a Jap sticker on the rear window with the number 479. Would this mean it was 479th of the line?

This is a our first Scooby and we feel we've jumped right in at the deep end, however, we're very excited to learn and eventually fix poor old Barney up to be the Beast that he should be.

We're going to be posting the recuperation of Barney and then eventually the exciting part of building upon him further.

Our first step is to switch out the Idle Control Valve and fit an Oxygen Sensor as he sounds and feels a bit asthmatic at present. Poor Barney needs to breathe lol

As this is our first Repair/Build advice will always be welcome! For instance, recommendations for where to get parts for V1s or any parts that are suitable.

Thought we'd "Hello"!

Watch this space!

Hello mate and welcome along. Look forward to seeing the car change in te future. Where did you get the car from?
Keep an eye out for upcoming meets and shows etc.

Parts sourcing is a tough one. There are quite a few Facebook based 2nd hand selling pages, but also lots of reports of people being ripped off with damaged parts or not turning up at all. That said there are plenty of reliabe sellers out there, just make sure you do your home work.

There are also the selling pages on here imcluding traders and people will be able to give you theyre experiences if you ask.

Parts sourcing all depends on budget as well and whether or ot you want to upgrade or go down the standard route.

Either way, good luck with the build!

Welcome to the fold guys!

I admire your noble decision to 'rescue' Barney. Bless him. It sounds like he is in good hands now and I'm eager to see how he progresses.

As mentioned, keep your eyes peeled for meets and gatherings coming up in the future. It would be good to see you both there!

All the best :thumb:

Thanks for the warm welcome guys :thumb:

We've certainly given ourselves a challenge to get Barney up to scratch but it'll be worth it. We got him from a guy in Northampton who, fortunately, didn't have him long but did get a few bits done at Roger Clark in January including clutch and flywheel.

We're struggling to find an O2 sensor at the moment as it's missing and we don't have a part number - v1 imports are hard to buy for!

We live on the seafront so we're always watching the Saturday cruisers go past with the kids - it's great to finally be able to join in with some of the meets at last! We've seen the bi-monthly pub meets so hopefully we'll be able to make the next one, we're going to JapFest next month too if anyone else is going?

Having both been stuck with boring daily "tractors" for a while, we're very happy to be back in a decent car with that lovely petrol smell again :luvlove: diesel's just not quite the same lol.

Welcome chap and chapette.

For new parts I tend to use importcarparts.com

Even if something isn't listed on the website, a simple call normally leads to them sourcing the parts. All oem too btw.

Alternatively there's breakers and seller on here. Personally I've used Matt baker a couple of times and recommend him.

And again, personally, I stay well away from Facebook sellers as more often than not it leads to a scam of some kind.

Good luck with your new money pit ;)
