Ticking noise in first and second

Anyone got any ideas what this could be in 1st and 2nd while accelerating normally not heavy load there's a ticking noise then it stops in 3rd onwards

Tick, tick, bang....

Had a 'box like that. First time I put any proper load through it, it stripped second gear.

It's called a timer in box, what power you running

I have same issue and am assuming the box is starting to go. I have my96 v1/2 and hoping my99 v3/4 box will go in no problems as I have one laying around.

MY99 is V5/6.......

You need to tap the box for the starter motor on later boxes. Also your diff's may need replaced, depending on JDM/UK.

Well I've had the starter off the my99 and fitted perfectly into the my96 no tapping required so maybe it's had a new box already? Diffs seem fine no noise just a fast ticking from box.

What is the transmission code on the box?
