Kodi box recommendations and minimum BB speed
 

As above. What's the one to buy?

We only have around 5MBS on our BB due to living in the sticks.

Streaming ITV or BBC players onto our 42" tv works fine with no buffering. Will a kodi box be the same? Some seem to say a minimum of 8MBS??

I have the Amazon fire stick thing that has it all on.....I also have sh1t Internet and it works fine

If you've got a smart tv you might not need a box. I downloaded it straight to my tv.

I use the Amazon Fire TV box, works just fine.

Use your laptop first with hdmi into the tv and check how well it runs before running the risk etc

I have a Rassy Pi running Kodi.

Wired connection to my network.

I have to say its not as sharp as using a dedicated media streamer - Serviio

but in terms of flexibility and tweakability its very very good

No matter which way you go, Dexter Pro is a must for only £4 a month, its the best paid IPTV I've come across.

The matricom g box Q seems to be the best on the market at the minute. The mxq/mx8 boxes are ok too but seem to buffer quite a bit.

Download Kodi for free for the pc first, I have it on both on pc and a droidplayer box.

Can't say I'm really impressed, it does buffer quite a lot. Running the latest beast build on both and my internet is 200meg.

One thing I found when testing it is don't be put off if you try it on one platform first and find it buffers etc (it's not always down to your internet connect, well, to an extent anyway).

I first tested Kodi on a Windows based machine and found it use to buffer a bit and even the general operation could sometimes be a bit laggy. I then decided to try the Unbuntu version of Kodi (on the same device/hardware) and it worked fine and still running the same to this day.

I got a HP Micro Server which was about £150 I think from memory and stuck a £20 HDMI graphics card in it.

I have been through most of the common IPTV / home entertainment distros - in my opinion Plex (Plex Connect) is the best of the bunch, which is what I currently run at home. I have it running on a 'hacked' apple tv, with a backend plex server which gives me access to my private collection of Movies, TV Shows and Music (24Tb on my NAS appliance) and TV channels - although we use more traditional means for TV usually. Plex is just more configurable and scalable that anything else I have tried, I have the server as an always on VM, which enables me to access content anywhere in the house, and with plex pass from anywhere in the world.


As above - windows is too resource intensive unless you are running on current spec hardware - running on *nix or Ubuntu platform will allow more system resources to be available to the application. Spin up "OpenElec" for a fast loading system with Kodi at its heart.
