first time owner of sti advice needed :)
Hi all, I have recently purchased a 2005 wrx sti and absolutely love it. It has covered 52000 miles and has had 1 previous owner. The only modifications was a cat back cobra exhaust and a GFB blow off valve. I am just about to get the car in to have its timing belt done and i am wanting to purchase the kit myself but was just wondering what kit i should get as there is plenty of choice available :wonder:.
Many thanks in advance. |
Gates or ADL / blueprint

Ok thanks mate will have a look at these, would you recommend replacing the water pump too?

The pump in essence is also I timing belt pulley so if you are fitting a kit then you do the pump as well. Subaru or ADL / blueprint

Ok brilliant, am i right in thinking that Gates are subarus supplier of the belts, and also not to get a blue one as they can rub off onto the idlers?

For the love of all that's mighty in the world DO NOT make the same mistake I made.
I asked a mechanic who I use regularly if he could do my cambelt and pump etc. He said yes, 3 days later he's finally finished. Start the car great. 6 months later the belt is frayed and the whole set up has ripped apart from the engine block. Go to a proper Subaru dealership or a mechanic that has proven record on Subaru's. Mine is all fixed and working fine now luckily but it's certainly a lesson learnt. |

Im not sure who makes them but have used Gates and ADL on enugh of these engines and others to say I have never had a single problem with them. Blue, pink, purple, green they all do it.
