Difference between Impreza WRX 2.5 and WRX 2.5 Type UK ?
 

Here's one for you Subaru gurus.. :)

Can anyone tell me the key differences (and any other minor differences they may know about) between them?

Parkers only gives a very basic spec, and all I can see is luggage space is less on the Type UK.. (why??) and the type UK was only produced in 2006 where as the other is 2005-2008

Also, the insurance group is dashed out on the type UK, on other is 38 (19) but I can't imagne the insurance is higher on the type UK as they are literally the same spec on paper.

Any accurate input would be much appreciated.

No difference. WRX Type UK was official UK car, whilst WRX was European car. As far as I know all 2.5s at that time were the hawkeye shape. First I saw in UK was on a 55 plate. Boot data must be wrong if both are saloon. Wagon has around a 500 litre boot (seats up)

after scouring the internet for a while I have read that the general consensus is the 2006 is a better model (see link below for the most compelling evidence I found for this), although I still haven't been able to find anything specific in difference between type UK and non type UK....there MUST be some difference..? if they manufactured the non-type UK from 2005-2008 and just the type UK in 2006, there HAS to be a reason behind that.

Type UK has Smartnav, Tracker, locking wheel nuts and a 'Type UK' badge on the boot.

2006 is the best year for the WRX. In 2006, along with revised styling, the WRX got the following updates from the JDM model:

1. Four piston front brakes with two piston brakes in the rear
2. 2.5L EJ25 engine with AVCS (detuned STi engine) that is rated at 230 hp but likely makes more
3. Forged aluminum front lower control arms, only on the sedan, from the JDM model (this is a big, expensive upgrade that I have never seen in a $25K car)

2007 models look identical but have steel lower control arms to cut costs, even on the STi.

This car is light, has a standard rear LSD, and has the best brakes ever fitted to a non STi WRX.

The later GH/GR model is much softer and more comfortable, but if you want a car for both street and track, I'd recommend the 2006-2007 model.

"Type UK" is used to distinguish genuine Subaru UK cars from cars parallel (grey) imported by the large car supermarkets via the Continent or Cyprus.

The parallel imported cars usually have an inferior trim spec and no sigma alarm fitted as standard.


Parkers and other spare part suppliers tend to use "year of registration" which doesn't tally with Subaru's Model Year (MY) notation.

Thanks for the replies and that info Don Clarke! :) I'm looking at a 2006 hawkeye type UK, and everything is pointing in its direction over the 2007 model so far. It does have the leather interior and I'm guessing the other bits like better alarm, tracker etc. Do you know about the bits above that I posted? Better brakes, EJ25 engine (is the 2007 same engine? Front arms....or is this just the US spec? Anyway, the type uk 2006 seems to be a slightly better spec car over the 2007.

it does appear that the MY07 2.0R and WRX have different front transverse arms to the previous model years (20202FE880/571 instead of 20202FE820/671) which from the diagrams would suggest they are steel rather than the usual alloy.

Any other specific MY differences you can probably chase on the above site.

Think that link is more based on the US market. All STIs I've owned have alloy control arms including my 07

We're also talking WRX not the STi and yes the MY07 STi does have the alloy arms.

Wasn't on about the opposedforces page. This one posted above it mentions Sti fitted with steel arms.

You should have been clearer, ;) and you are correct, it is wrong in that respect.

I have 06 wrx type uk and it does have alloy arms. Found this out when i called subaru to check about the recall with the steel arms and mine wasnt on the list. As for the rest i wouldnt know what was different.
