Water leak in boot
 

Hi, I'm a bit puzzled as to how I'm getting water in the boot of my 51 plate Subaru gx. I seem to have a puddle in the far left boot well by the jack holder and I can't seem to see where it's coming from water seems to be exiting the rear lights fine. Any advice or ideas would be highly appreciated as its doing my head in now.

On my classic I had a few different leaks. The spoiler seals were one, the tail light seals were another and the boot seal itself was leaking.

Now the worst one and hardest to find was actually a hole in the bodywork in the inner arch that was letting water in to that same area as yours when I was driving in wet weather. Worth having a good look in all the areas I've mentioned.

Those are the main four, I've had all of them.

there's a fifth: rear window seal, and a sixth: mastic along body joint at top of boot inner lip corners.

The commonest are the lights, (remove and re-bed in Carafax, do NOT use silicone etc), and spoiler mount holes, (as above).

alcazar may i ask why you say not to use silicone?

Two reasons: it's not meant to be used where the part is regaularly immersed, it soon cracks and splits.

But the main reason is that if you ever want the lights off again, (minor damage etc), you'll struggle if you've siliconed them, whereas the Carafax will come away...with a good pull.

Use the stuff that's made for the job, don't bodge;)
