More Gauge Issues
 

Morning All,


I'm certainly having a bad time of it. After issues with my oil temperature gauge yesterday, my speedometer has started acting out.


On the way to work today it dropped to zero for about half a mile then when it started working again it was temperamental (slow to react then jumping every so often).


Can anyone offer any advice?


I have an 04 JDM STI

check for bad connection on speedo sensor on gear box, that worked for me there was a little surface rust on it, cleaned it of, a little bit of contact spray and plugged it in, worked like a charm.

Sensor on Gear Box? Is that a hard thing to check?


Think first thing to do would be to check the gauges. I'm thinking that as it is picking up some readings (albeit slowly) and it might just be a connection issue as you say

not that hard, a lift would be easy but it is doable on jackstands.

Mine was on de drivers side of the gearbox in the middle more or less. pointing upwards.
If al gauges(tacho, fuel, water) where temperamental, I would check the cluster connection, but if its only speedo and other things work fine, I wouldn't bother and first check speedo sensor :)

Well since I was in about the electrics yesterday I fear I may have knocked something. Otherwise if it persists do you know of a guide to checking the speed sensor?

Also I have read a lot about speed sensors going...


They mention not being able to rev above 4000rpm. I'm not having issues such as that. Fair to say I am a little confused by it all.

If you where fiddling with the electronics then it may be possible you hit something and it has a bad contact somewhere or a partially broken wire, but that will be a bitch to find.

This is a photo of the side of your gearbox it is next to the dipstick tube so shouldn't be too hard too find.

I didn't had issues with revving over 4000 rpm with my bad connection then, but then again mine is 1996 maybe they didn't programmed a fault code for that.
