Destroyed front splitter ride height or ground level?

Didn't think my coilover ride height was set too low, however the car park I used today had a steepish ramp as I attempted it "crack" front splitter destroyed. Is it just me or is the distance from front wheels to very front of the splitter on a hawkeye quite long? Anyone else have issues? At stance I have as good as an inch over tyre height on the front ?

Last year I got through a fair few, it really struggles with multi storey car parks,

These one was from a collision with a rabbit!
Attachment 37861

And this one was due to using the self tapping screws provided! They pulled out at high speed and it folded itself under the car!

Attachment 37862

New one is safely secured with bolts, washers and nuts!!

ZANY 07 February 2016 07:30 PM

It's the exact reason why I won't put one on mine can't make my mind up but all the horror stories and my own being on coilovers it does do my head in as I know it'll look better with one on very confusing indeed:wonder:

M2RTXhawkeye 07 February 2016 07:56 PM

Done the same yesterday to my annoyance twice!!! Thinking of taking it off as raising the ride height isn't an option right now..

The Pink Ninja 07 February 2016 08:26 PM

Just sell it to me if there's anything left of it :lol1:

ZANY 07 February 2016 08:59 PM

Sorry to go a it off topic which suspension set up is better on theses widetrack the coilovers being tein ones on mine or std sti ones?

The Pink Ninja 07 February 2016 09:12 PM

Ohlins but they are about £1800, you can get BC BR's or Meister R's for half the price but you get what you pay for ;)

M2RTXhawkeye 07 February 2016 09:35 PM

Lol I'll take it off when the weather gets better mate you can have a look

Zany I've got bilstein b14's find them perfect not too harsh at all and the quality is good too... Around £1300

I run hks hypermax 4 they are abit harsh on bad roads but epic elsewhere. Maybe time to raise height this splitter killing gets expensive lol

Looks like coilovers are to be left on and splitter will be given a miss @90 a pop its a lot f money I was thinking of putting it back to std then a splitter but looks like every1 goes for the coilovers so I'm gonna love the teins on it:thumb:

SY: let us know how you get on after adjustment of ride height as the splitters do finish the front ends of nicely I reckon I would have had1 on if mine wasn't so low best of luck pal:thumb:

I'm also on number 3, it sucks! Not particularly low either on ASTs!

Current is a Chargespeed Bottomline, so I literally crawl everywhere that I think I may hit something

The Pink Ninja 10 February 2016 04:14 PM

I did 2 on a set of AST's...and done a carbon one on this as its even lower !!

so why do you say Ohlins are better than BC BR's or Meister R's ???

BrownPantsRacing 22 February 2016 10:20 PM

Mine has lasted for years now. Just ensure it's flexible plastic and BOLTED on not using the self tappers as mentioned. Use big penny washers too. Been bent, scratched, knocked, etc over and over again. Have resprayed it a few times too with Hellfrauds satin black. Still looks like new~! :)

sy. 27 February 2016 09:07 AM

Just to give feed back on ride hight I currently have the car set to the hks test settings which has raised the car by about 10mm and added a tiny amount of front preload. Car feels great and will be better once geo redone I'm sure, only neg is car looks high as running 17" wheels but splitter clearance greatly improved.

Becausee bcs, meister r etc are elcheapo rebrands of each other.

Ohlins are far more expensive for a reason..

Omitting the rabbit, were the splitter incidents with your Bilsteins and rb320 springs?

Never damaged one from being to low, but it does scrape in some multi story car parks. I think the Hawks are more affected by it due the the larger front over hang.

All the splitters I've had are the flexible ones you can bend in half but the rabbit still shattered it. Was traveling fairly fast tho! :lol1:

Thanks . Still low but now clears the ramp that destroyed the original splitter :luxhello: that is the hks tested ride hight settings but they used 18" mine is loosing height due to 225/45/17 Will see how it goes but so far so good.

sy. 02 March 2016 10:40 AM

Right I need to brush up on my maths lol as I've edited above as was wrong so 225/45/17 is roughly 238mm from centre of wheel to the ground 225/40/18 is 248mm a difference of 10mm.

BrownPantsRacing 02 March 2016 11:09 AM

Not correct according to this calculator below....

This indicates there will only be 1.5mm difference in ride height.
