97 RON in STI Widetrack

Local Tesco is closed for refurb and nearest shell station is about 6 miles away.

Will need to do some planning to keep in on VPOWER or Tesco 99.

What's it like on 97? I know filler cap says 98 and everyone says it will pop on 95 but what about 97?

I would say if you must use 97 then and some octane booster.
97 will be more prone to det

BoozyDave 27 January 2016 10:11 PM

97 should be ok as long as you don't give it beans/redline it

95 ron is fine as long as you keep the revs below 4k rpm

ossett2k2 27 January 2016 10:16 PM

Is it even possible to drive an Impreza below 4k :D

Steve001 27 January 2016 10:36 PM

Or just drive the 6 miles ;)

BoozyDave 27 January 2016 10:51 PM

just thinking about it, I used to drive 8 miles each way to fill up. It wasn't my nearest Shell garage, but the one 1 mile away charged 16p A LITRE more than the next shell garage for 99ron!

Same here,I have a shell garage next door to work but prefer to drive about 8 miles to the pool bank one and it's cheaper,a nice drive out and I can nip to the local boozer for a cheeky pint of real ale :)

you can't beat a nice drive and a quick pint :thumb:

I have stopped using Tesco for my fuel now, with the recent price war I am fairly certain that I have been paying for 99RON and getting 95 RON. I am now back to Shell and all my sporadic problems with poor mpg, power and running all gone....

Maybe its better down South?

Lillyart14 28 January 2016 02:11 AM

Only use 99RON at Tesco (Kent), and never had a problem with the fuel. Although the pumps take AGES to fill up...

Gambit 28 January 2016 03:15 PM

it wont cause any probs running in on 97RON. 97RON is all we get in Northern Ireland and the place is coming down with Subarus

BrownPantsRacing 28 January 2016 03:31 PM

If your subaru hasn't been re-mapped then 97 as already said will be fine. If it was mapped specifically for 99 then as also said, either just drive easier or put some booster in.

south_scoob 28 January 2016 06:05 PM

I was out of my neck off the woods and had to fill up with boggo 95

Then had a legal play with a white rag top R8 and forgot

And its mapped for 99 so if you take it easy 97 be fine. People worry too much sometimes

I've been thinking the same (and I am down south).

This crossed my mind yesterday as I have started to lose 10-15 MPG with Tesco Momentum. My hawkeye has always performed better on Momentum than vPower but of late there's been a noticeable decline in MPG. :Suspiciou

Not only have I lost MPG but I now have an engine light on too; I have no idea whether that's linked to fuel, will get it checked tomorrow.

Jonnys3 28 January 2016 09:08 PM

Sorry, should re-quantify that it's 10-15 miles down on what I'd usually get out a full tank. Either way it's still a noticeable decline in MPG.

The nearest petrol station is 5miles from my house just happens to be a shell tho.
