Brake upgrade

I've been looking for a set of Porsche gt3 calipers for a while now to no avail.
I got to wondering what are the better oem brakes those from the s205 which I think are the same as the gt3 or the Ap calipers from the Cs400

AS Performance 23 January 2016 01:13 PM

the s205 calipers are NOT the same as the Porshe ones............

AS Performance 23 January 2016 01:15 PM

recently done a neat little custom upgrade on an S205 kit..........

just one of many varied projects we undertake on a daily basis

Mark10sti 24 January 2016 01:31 AM

Which calipers are the s205 ones then, and how do they compare with the Porsche gt setup

AS Performance 25 January 2016 03:50 PM

the large Porshe caliper is very ungainly IMO and i believe the reason it was originally chosen for Subaru upgrades was simply because at the time it was very cost effective.........it uses a 190mm long pad whereas the S205 caliper uses a 165mm pad

for reference the Alcon monoblock and AP Racing race spec calipers (cp5555/cp5070) are far neater and use pads approx 155mm (CS400 simply uses a lower spec road going cp7040 calliper with 150mm pad)

Do pads still need machining for the Porsche ones Alyn? Rough cost for a set of PF's ready to fit if you can pls ;)

AWG 25 January 2016 09:09 PM

Wasn't Powerstation the only stockist of the Porsche kit?

The Pink Ninja 25 January 2016 10:54 PM

Possibly I'm not sure, I want pads tho :thumb:

AWG 26 January 2016 08:23 AM

Call Alyn.

AS Performance 26 January 2016 09:41 AM

the Porshe caliper is fitted to single piece discs originally and therefore the bell / rotor interferes with the lower portion of the pad, we offer various manufacturer / material options and can easily machine to suit

always best to contact the office direct for specific queries

cheers

AWG 26 January 2016 10:48 AM

Who supplies the calipers now that Powerstation have ceased?

Tidgy 26 January 2016 12:05 PM

Prob porsche for a daft amount of markup, why not just go with an AP setup which will be more than enough braking power.

Mark10sti 26 January 2016 12:40 PM

What brake set up would you recommend then Alyn, I'm running mid 500s on a hawkeye

Godspeed Brakes 26 January 2016 12:43 PM

The Porsche calipers are made by Brembo , you can buy them from the dealer but aren't cheap .

We are now using the new AP CP9040 forged 6 pot calipers , uses the same pad as the cast 7040 calipers , pads in this shape are a lot cheaper than for the older 5555 and 5570 calipers , and the 9040 caliper is dust sealed for more reliability , this would be my choice of caliper to go for in the AP 6 pot range , they work out cheaper too.

I am putting together a 355mm G Hook disc kit with the 9040 6 pots today , so will put some pics up of them a bit later on

Cheers Ian

Yes they were as it's a kit only they made , it uses Porsche calipers , AP discs , and bells and brackets they had made , along with Porsche shape pads that are trimmed in width as they hit the bells

We also make a 330mm kit using the AP CP 9040 6 pot forged calipers to fit under 17" wheels

Aren't the 7040s dust sealed too?

AWG 27 January 2016 03:13 PM

How much is that kit Ian?

Yes , but AP are phasing them out now , the 7040's are a very good caliper , have used them for years , the 9040 uses the same seals , same sized pistons , same shape pad , but the caliper body is forged instead of cast so they can be made smaller.
The dust seals on the 7040 and 9040 calipers fully cover the pistons as they come out , the older design , the 5555 and 5570 calipers just have a scraper seal in the caliper bore , so offer no protection to the piston

The 330mm kit is £1499 and the 355mm kit is £1599
