Anyone running Godspeed discs and kevlar pads?

Just after some feedback on the Godspeed discs and kevlar pads package that Ian sells, has anyone been using them and how do you find them?

The car won't see a track and I don't drive the wheels off it on the road either, I just want confident braking when I need it........I must be getting old or something!

Cheers in advance,
Ian

I've had them on my classic (with 4-pots) for about a year, and for road use, I find them very good indeed.

staaf 22 January 2016 11:23 AM

I do have them on my classic converted with brembo's all around. But only have them in the rear. At front I'v got a complete set of ICP, for only road use and some spirited driving, like I do, it's more than enoughd, they're quiet, brake evenly when cold of hot, so far no fading at all and I do give them some punishment sometimes just to test them.

bro82 22 January 2016 12:21 PM

mine has arrived two days ago, didn't fit them yet though but after reading so many good reviews and quick chat with Ian I thnk you won't find anything better in that price range

IggyRB320 22 January 2016 12:47 PM

Not run them on any of my Impreza's.
But had Ian's grooved discs & kevlar pads all round on the wife's JCW Mini 'supercharged model' for about the last 4 years. Had the 2nd set fitted last year & they perform quite well, with no squeal just a little 'huuuum' from the grooves.

I have and they are great.

ted bass 22 January 2016 02:09 PM

Yeah m8 godspeed stuff is decent kit, I'm running grooved discs and kevlar pads and pull up well, running goodridge braided hoses also with the set up, only slight complaint is the kevlar pads squeal like a banshee when cold lol

evil.soup 22 January 2016 03:09 PM

Well that sounds like a sale then with all the positive feedback. I will get some ordered tonight.

Thanks all!

ted bass 22 January 2016 03:59 PM

I went the extra mile and also got recon front and rear calipers off Ian at Godspeed, ones on me 06 Hawk were starting to bind on a bit, decent guy is Ian always very helpful

t1gger 22 January 2016 07:39 PM

I've got them with grooved discs on my sf forester with 4 pots and 2 pots really good no squeals and not that much dust.

lordharding 22 January 2016 07:43 PM

I'm going to get that combination with the J shaped grooves
Good to have positive views on them

evil.soup 22 January 2016 08:06 PM

Didn't see the J/C hook option on these. I have wondered about that pattern mind, is it any better/worse or just cosmetics?

gregwill 22 January 2016 10:10 PM

They will suit your needs fine mate !! Didn't have any squealing at all from them and rate them highly for what they are.

Improved bite, better at clearing pad debris and just a more balanced disc, ap have been using the j hook design for a while now so it has to be good:thumb:.Ian's J hook disc look well made by the way.SJ.

I may give him a ring about those because I didn't see the option on the mobile site at least. Just from a cosmetic stand point they look good.

Does anyone know if they cause more pad wear than grooves and do they make more noise?

They can be a tad noisier but not the screeching sound that can be associated with some performance pads, just a light humming/whirring sound as the disc turn through the pads, but in all honesty with a performance exhaust it won't be something you would notice too much unless your trying to listen out for it specifically if you get my drift. Here is an article that can explain more:http://apradical.stillen.com/brake-t..._j_hook_rotors.SJ.

I've had the 2 piece discs and PF Z compound pads to fit on the Evo since beginning of December... still not had time :( can't wait to get rid of the Project MU discs/pads because they squeal like mad !

This is the set up I have front and back Ian

They work fine, your use of the car is simular to me and you will be happy, they do fade out after heavy use but you cant have it all

A good all round set up
P.S

For an extra £20 get the discs Zinc coated it will stop them rusting in the vents and look more attractive to the eye ;)

Just picked them up from Godspeed, centres are painted but not zinc coated. I didnt think about that to be honest. I may pick up a can and just do the inside of the vents myself. Only got the fronts so far because the backs have some life in them yet but want the same pattern front and back just so it looks right so they will be changed soon enough.
I just need to pull my finger out and fit them now!

Thats what i am afraid of to be honest Merv once they have left my boot and gone onto the garage shelf i need to make sure they don't just sit there.

Cheers Ian, I may just do that. I am competent at working on the car but always been a bit nervous about playing with the brakes even though I know its a straight forward job.

Thanks!

The Trooper 1815 30 January 2016 12:46 PM

No probs.

evil.soup 30 January 2016 07:27 PM

Thanks Ian, you have PM

I bought the complete set up with new WRX PRO four pot calipers, and i can't fault them fair play. They do work better when warmed up that's the Kevlar pads, so keep that in mind.

fattaffracingco 07 February 2016 01:23 PM

if you are considering running his stainless pistons I suggest you get plenty of feedback from other members, they have been nuthin but trouble for me , his stainless pistons DO bind and DO rust ??? poor quality stainless I dunno??
I have ultrasonically cleaned , stripped, re sealed , mine 3 times in the last 3.5 years
I threw the towel in last month after they were binding again and put in pagid re con calipers, we will see how these pan out,
I 'm not saying they are all bad but like with everything do yer homework

Never had any problems with the three sets I have refurbed. Some by Godspeed and some by BiggRed.
Have you spoken with Ian?

No problems with mine after 1 year and 12000 miles. Is yours daily driven?

no the car is sometimes parked up for a couple of days at a time?
I spoke to ian on a number of occasions ,to which he just hummed and harr'd
he only suggested that I re seal them and sold me two kits on two separate occasions at £36 per time ( I think cant remember)
or I bring in calipers and they would refurb them at their usual rate
I shud have pushed the issue on rust spots on pistons which I noticed on third stripdown, but taking car off road to resolve issue and to drive from Swansea to bridgend back n fore at that stage of the game was just a step too far ( cud have just been bad batch of stainless )
his counter manner was very friendly but without solutions ? school is still out on him at mo
I 'm just saying that do yer homework , I cud be one in thousand but then again I might not be
