Quick one on gearbox oil.
Hi folks. I have recently purchased my first scoob, a Impreza wrx sti hawk, and I'm over the moon with it. I just wanted to ask if the Silkolene SILKTRAN SYN 5 75W-90 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil can be used in the rear diff aswell as the gearbox. And I believe I will need 6ltr.
Cheers peeps. |
Nope as its a plated rear diff, you need a 90pa oil i use motul 90pa in mine for years and motul300 in the box but any good brand will be fine.

Ahh, got ya. Sweet as mate thanks for the reply.
|
Is yours dccd?
|
It is mate yea.
|
Then a LS oil for diff and normal 75/90 for box.
I've used millers crx 75/90 nt for box and millers crx 'LS' 75/90 nt for diff in my dccd. Notice the LS (limited slip) in the spec |
Cheers very much for your help.

75W/140 LS for both?
Hi, its my first Subaru - i bought a Hawkeye 2007 WRX STI with DCCD.
i want to change the oil in the gearbox and diff. Someone told me i should for both use oil with specification 75W/140 LS Should i? Thank you |
Hi
No, you want a 75w-90 for the gearbox and this one is ideal http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-899-motu...-diff-oil.aspx The diff needs a SAE90 LSD oil, like the Fuchs Titan Race Gear 90LS, Castrol Axle Z or Motul 90PA. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-679-sae-90-gear-oils.aspx Cheers Tim |

Thicker oils put more strain on everything, so you tend to only use thicker grades when the oil is getting hot enough to thin out. Unless it's a heavily modified track car, it's unlikely to get hot enough to need a thicker oil and using a 75w-140 oil will just make it harder to change gear. Cheers Tim |
