Piston ring's problem, Please help!

Hi people,

Im completely new here so please be as lenient as possible tried and looked where i could, have a version 4 sti had to get second hand engine for it so i did.. got new piston rings by my chassi no and no1 piston ring doesn't fit the piston for the engine that i got and the pistons in the old engine cant be reused two of them are slightly cracked from underneath also they are slightly different from one to another in shape and material i think, dealership doesnt accep't the return because its a special order!? so i asked for a new set of rings for the new engine which they needed the chassi no or reg no which i couldn't get from the scrapyard because the car was scrapped a good while ago and they dont have any record, please help? :brickwall

Kind regards

there is two sizes i think

measure your rings from the pistons your fitting and order from icp or automotive

Do i have to get the whole lot or would they sell just the first separator rings? Couldnt find icp or automotive which country is this m8 ?

Thanks man, tried them they measured ring no1 for v3,5,6 sti's non of them suit either to big or too small :(

Some photos of the pistons would help just in case they are aftermarket/forged items.
Generally, up to 1998 they use a thick ring set, 1999 onwards use a thin ring set.

The engine that i got second hand is centre thrust so its pre 98 but pistons could be out of anything but they have fuji logo underneath so i imagine they are subaru pistons? Also i think its aluminum piston the old one is iron if im not mistaking have pics here

Ah the pics tell it all.
Old piston is a Version 3~4 Sti ( should have HF/1/2/3 stamped on the underside of the crown)
New piston is a non turbo piston from a EJ20 16v SOHC engine.

That's where your problem lies mate.

Well thats great... So these pistons cannot be used on a sti? Can the crank and the block be used though? Can i just get the pistons and use my rings that i have and put em in it? Thanks for the info Mick ur my hero today

Compression ratio would be way too high using the non turbo pistons.
Crank and block can be used and yes, if you pick up some more STi 3~4 pistons you can use your new ring set on them.
