How to tell if an Impreza has had an engine swap?

Going to look at a UK classic Impreza, but wanted to know how to check the car has its original engine in it?

Engine number usually matches up with chassis number

Ok so on the classic's if your facing engine its right hand side above spark plugs?

On the data plate, inner wing, n/s.

Engine number on the block is top right hand side of the bell housing when facing the engine.
