Plate mill rolled it's last plates last night, now shut down. Promised aid on energy too little, too late. Meanwhile, Germany and Italy have, once again, NOT asked EC permission, but gone ahead and given relief to their industries...which remain open. When ARE we going to get a government who will stand up to the EC? |

Is this the end of steel production in Scunthorpe. I know most of it has gone over the years. Was this the last steel related plant in the area? |
No, we still have long products: bar, rod, rails for railways etc.
The Labour party thought it a good idea to let it all be sold to Indian TATA Steel, who came in, learned our technology and now use it in other plants, and want shut of our works. Meanwhile, government are sitting on their hands, unlike the Germans and Italians. |

Yep...they came in, copied our technology, and now want out.
It'll be sold to asset strippers, closed in five years:( |
