Cheap coilovers..... why ..??
So was scanning ebay this evening like I do quite often and saw these again.....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Coilover-C...MAAOSw37tWEdXn http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201441403028?redirect=mobile Now it's not something I'm interested in buying but am interested to know how they can be so cheap. I'd assume they are pretty sh1t but what makes them sh1t ? What do other cheap coilovers like BC do that these don't as these are less than half the price. Has anyone used the ebay ones, how do they fare ??? |
I have jom coilovers on my fabia vrs runabout that were on the car when i got it 260 quid and there pretty brutal so you get what you pay for i suppose.

To be fair, I had 2 grands worth of AST's on my last classic and they were extremely hard, even on the softest setting. |
Yeh solid and crashy, ast,s on the subaru much nicer.

But I wanna know why these cheap ebay coilovers are bad, what makes them worse than more expensive coilovers ? Is the material inferior, or the springs poorer quality ? I'd imagine they don't wear well... |
Usually made cheaply with alloy boddies so corrode like made and very crashy. I find my ast.s quite good. Ive already had to send one of the cheap jom coilovers back for replacement as they were under a year old.

I had some "hot tuning " ones on my vectra gsi years ago and pissed out fluid after about 7 months
|
been talking to a lad who has them fitted and he said the locking nuts for the springs was a better set up than bc`s ...
he said they are hard and might be looking into getting different springs |
basically cheap materials, ****ty ride, once they're fecked only good for the bin no chance of repairing them, no after sales support such as getting softer springs to match the roads you drive on.
They are for people that want the "on its ass" look but dont want to pay for proper coilovers :) |
I had a BMW coupe, the previous owner had 'slammed' it on cheap eBay coilovers. This was cheaper for him than buying oem standard rear shocks to replace a leaking strut. It was imho criminal. Why have a car that was over 38k new and stick £180 coilovers on it. They had been on the car 6 months when I brought it and came off within my first month. The ride quality was awful, the bolts and mountings had rusted, one shock was starting to weep and the adjustment thread was ceased solid. The springs seemed decent enough but basically it's a cheap way for a 17yr old to 'pimp' his 1ltr perhaps but not for a performance car, the standard kit is far better.

I had some cheap coilovers fitted to a golf, hard ride but didn't notice much difference to a Jamax set i had, only thing was they rusted fast, after 12 months had a layer of surface rust.

They cant be any worse than BC's.
