Thoughts on this Type R?

Hello I am in the market for buying a quality 'early-shape' Impreza

This Type R has certainly caught my eye

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2521739422...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

What are peoples thoughts on this?

Thanks, Jake

Tidgy 19 November 2015 03:18 PM

looks tidy enough, see if you can get the auction sheet for it

Jake9 19 November 2015 03:41 PM

I'll ask him when I go see it.

Only thing thats put me off is I've read certain things about the engines going. My mate had a Type RA that the crank went on as well.

Should that be a concern for a standard power lower mileage one such as this?

Tidgy 19 November 2015 07:31 PM

total pot luck mate, you could get one on 100k and could last another 100k or could fail within 3k mile like mine did :(

76k isnt too bad, my type r went at 104k but had been someones track car so not surprising it had a hard life

Jake9 19 November 2015 07:52 PM

Riiight, so some are just potential duffers?

I really don't plan on upping the power any time soon, and if I were to it would only be to a modest amount.

I guess thats the risk you take with these cars aye. I should know that going from a GT4

Tidgy 19 November 2015 07:55 PM

mine just basicly wore out andyeah some are duffers depending on how they have be treated.

But thats no different to any other car mate so i wouldn't worry about it too much.

It's on the cheaper end of the scale so bear that in mind

Jake9 19 November 2015 08:11 PM

Yeah its all a gamble when your after these kinds of cars I appreciate that. I just want to do it right this time. I don't mind if bits need changing so much I can do all that.

However my GT4 needed a lot of money spending on it, mainly to do with the suspension and I don't fancy the same experience again. Particularly with me having a bit more money to spend this time round.

Whats the going rate on a Type R these days?

Tidgy 19 November 2015 08:20 PM

depending on version, i prefer the facelift one so a decent one with decent history prob 8k ish

Jake9 19 November 2015 08:46 PM

Seems weird this ones so cheap then. Is that because its a pre-facelift?

PFL or PF doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I guess I'll just have to see

Tony Harrington 19 November 2015 09:01 PM

From the pics & info it appears ok and reasonably priced, some Type R's are in the higher bracket but have they sold?

You can only really tell when you see the car in the flesh. Try to take someone with you who has more experience.

Also may be worth trying the guys on Type-Ra.com

Most definitely this...! Get a copy of Grade Sheet / Export Certificate and see if they have a BIMTA Certificate for it.

This car has been discussed over on typera.com
Very nice thing on the face of it and well priced. Value will only go one way if kept tidy.

bruce1986 19 November 2015 09:50 PM

Very similar to mine I recently purchased,I like it
Looks like a very good price as well,it has to be worth a look if it's not too far

Jake9 19 November 2015 11:22 PM

Yeah true, plenty of people out there who advertise there car higher purely because they want it to be worth more. Not because thats what anyone will pay for it.

If everything goes well I shall arrange a viewing this weekend, I'll be taking my meticulous Father so if anything comes up wrong we'll know about it.

another thing, it has passed its MOT yet only reads in KMs

Also seems strange he imported it and wants rid of it straight away.

Not saying circumstances don't quickly change for people, however you've got to wonder?

As said above, we've discussed this car on www.type-ra.com/subaru-forum/
KMs or miles don't affect the MOT. My MY97 Type R is still in KMs & passes the MOT fine.
The car looks good from the pics & seems to have the original decals, which are now discontinued.

If it's as good as it looks, get in & buy it:thumb:
Good luck.

Yeah I've just found and had a look at the thread on Type-ra

Okay, well thank you all for the input guys, much appreciated!

We shall see how this unfolds.....

Hello all again! Unfortunately I did not purchase that car, bloody wish I had though!

However I do have my eye on 2 others

Firstly is this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2818365605...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Its an Impreza WRX STi wagon? They did actually make these then? Plus are there any cons to buying a wagon over a normal saloon? I do quite like the idea of having that extra space

Second is this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1618874607...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Both very nice cars, The second one is more appealing to me in terms of looks, am I right in assuming the wagons are heavier as well?

What are peoples thoughts?

Both car's are massively overpriced in my opinion.

I agree.Sounds ludicrous to me.Does anyone know of such cars actually selling at anything like these prices?

Jake9 29 November 2015 06:48 PM

Really? See I'm new to these cars. There does seem to be quite a wide variety of prices people want. I assumed these were higher price because of the milage being quite low.
Otherwise I guess they're just trying their luck.

What price do you think either of them are worth?

There is no extra space as standard configuration, though it may look that way. Interior passenger space is the exact same as saloon and so is the luggage space. You get a larger boot opening and the rear seats can fold down, that's the only way you gain boot space, by losing passenger space. Chassis is less stiff due to that also.

Jake9 30 November 2015 11:00 PM

hmm, so a bit of a trade off then, I think I'll stick with the saloon idea, wouldn't want to lose stiffness!
