Remapping standard blob sti

Hi Guys,

First of all apologies for not being active on the forum since my first post! I've had my 03 blob sti since May, it's on 66k, since I've baught it I've done the following;

Gates timing belt kit including all tensiors and pulleys changed (everything but the water pump).

Oil service and cooland change

New front discs and pads.

Car is going in to see Neil at Slowboy Racing tomorrow to have the following done;

KYB rear shocks,

Grease clutch release fork shaft

Diff and gear box oil change

It's only had 2 owners before me, a strong service history, in all of your opinions would an ECUTEK stage 1 be OK?

Thanks in advance guys - Kristian

Sorry guys poor wording on my side. I'm considering a ecu remap and wanted everyone's opinion on whether based on the condition/age and mileage of my vehicle whether I should/shouldn't get it done.

cant see any problem bud, low miles and had all the essential servicing done. go for it, but just remember the power bug is addictive!

Cheers for the advice guys, had a TT225 before with 125k on the clock and mapped to 275 bhp so im not sure what im worried about!! :-) One thing, what about the clutch? It's the original clutch can it take 300+ bhp?

yabbadoo4 06 November 2015 01:23 PM

standard clutch on mine at 340 and its fine m8.

Tidgy 06 November 2015 01:35 PM

as long as its well looked after then be fine to get remapped. A decent mapper will only push it as far as he feels safe to do so anyway

I ran my OEM clutch at 420 ft/lbs (440bhp). It didn't like being abused, but driven with consideration it will be ok for a while.

53 plate
62000 miles
standard clutch
full decat
ecutek remapped to 328bhp

no issues with mine :) it did make 333bhp but scoobyclinic held back a little due to me running the standard fuel pump at the time

Why did you change everything apart from the waterpump?

Probably because subaru water pumps are actually very reliable, maybe consider it after 100k but they are not an item that's known for failing on subarus, it's something that people seem to have carried over from other marques, and of course it's a nice bit of extra cash for who ever is doing the job.

They are no more reliable than the idlers or tensioner but you changed them. The fact you had it all apart it would have been best doing it. You have fitted all new pulleys and tensioner which now means the waterpump is the weak link.
