Strut brace choices.....

I'm keen to hear people's views on the different strut braces out there.
I have an 03 Wagon with Whiteline ARB & ALK and BC's all round.
I compete in sprints with it.

I've seen solid one piece strut braces for £100-£150 a piece and various other (usually pink ended) ones which have bolted end pieces, typically F&R for £100.

If the brace is to transfer the forces do the lower cost ones work as well as the one piece items?

Thanks

The pink ended ones are about 50 quid on ebay. Get a titanium sti one.

Thanks Rb5, I was wondering if there's much difference as the titanium ones are a single solid piece?

The titanium ones come in three bits.

Summit or don't bother :)

53 - the Summit ones look the meatiest ! But alas I can't see them for a Newage anywhere.

rb5 - I hadn't realised they were 3 piece too. I was wondering if the 3 piece arrangement made them less effective than a single piece. But it seems the vast majority are 3 piece .

for a piece of metal to brace two struts then the ebay ones for circa £25 are fine, I wouldn't have thought you would notice any difference paying for titanium or £100+ braces! If you are willing to pay that much for extra rigidity, then you are better off seam welding the chassis and/or fitting a roll cage

Seam welding or a weld in cage is a little different to undoing 6 nuts on the strut tops imo

Pink Ninja - if you don't mind me saying ....you've got an amazing underside!! There's a few ££ there

You're right, I'm guessing there'e a huge difference in feel & easy fitting between Strut Braces vs Cage!

Coincidently, I'd just seen a 6 point cage, 2nd hand, for £400 ! Which seemed a rare bargain (possibly too good to be true...) but was for a Classic anyway.
This compares well with approx £300 for F&R braces....

IanG - That's what I was wondering. Would I feel the difference between the thicker much more expensive Sumit/Titanium vs the various alternatives at half the price.

I think I'll be trying F&R strut braces ahead of a cage for now (I realise a more relaistic price for a newage cage is £1000).
Just deciding on which make of braces.....

Thanks...yes there is but fortunately someone else paid for it all as I bought the car like that :D

Keep your eye out in the breaking sections, the STi titanium one goes for around £75-80 second hand ;)

Mine was a bargain then, I'd never pay over £100 for a second hand one personally
