Car security..a close call!?

So I have just discovered that someone has tried to steal my car!

A few days ago I went down to the car to discover the alarm had been triggered 2x. Didn't see anything obvious, so thought someone might have just knocked into it.

Driving to work and I noticed the bonnet flapping quite a bit. Stopped and looked and it looks like the bonnet metal has ripped around where the bonnet catch is.

I have had a mechanic out to look at it, and he said it looks like someone has forced it and failed, but ripped the inner bonnet skin in the process.

I have a cat 1 alarm / immobiliser and a thatcham steering lock (the one that spins). The thieves obviously were not worried about the alarm and the steering lock as they would not have tried it.

However the mechanic said that thieves can jump the starter motor direct from the battery to get it going.

This is extremely worrying!

Is there anything that I can do to improve the car security, does anyone have any recommendations?

EDIT - Its a classic sti v5

There is little point in opening a bonnet to steal a car other than to smash the alarm siren.

It's more likely they were trying to nick parts (inter cooler, lights, grille etc. ).

putting a car in a garage is normally a good way to stop thieves as well because if they have to break a garage door etc that all takes time....

But once they are in the garage there is less rush, they can take their time, even use your own tools to steal it lol

One other thing to consider is the Toucan (Touch screen gauge device that links to ECU).
This device also lets you switch between multiple maps on the ECU that can be pin protected.
Create a map that cuts fuel injection, pin protect changing from this map.
Even if they have the keys the engine will not start.

PM'd (Edit: nope I lied. you're msg box is full :))
