New petrol pumps too quiet.

Just checking if its only me but I have been caught out a couple of times by the
new, nearly silent pumps. You lift the nozzle & wait for the noise of the pump startup to kick in & ................................

Nothing!!!

Stand there like an idiot staring daggers at the kiosk worker mentally screaming 'press the start button you £$%^*!!!' until you realise it's already started.

:o:lol1:

I HATE the ones in France. There, they have one person taking payment in a kiosk, and there can be up to eight pumps feeding into that kiosk.

Now figure in that NO pump can be freed until the person last using it has paid, and you can stand 20 minutes waiting, quite easily.

Oh...and they still take cheques, which take an AGE to process.:(

I've also used the self-service pumps with my card at night, but you almost always get some dodgy-looking person approach you to fill theirs on your card, and they give you cash, since they "have no card".

There's just too many of them for it to be anything but a scam, and they are almost 100% of African descent too........

What , cos they darkies ? :brickwall:

Now THAT'S a racist attitude.

If you re-read my post, you'll see I said FIRST that it must be some sort of scam as it's happening too often, THEN mentioned that they were almost all ethnic as an afterthought.

YOU put 2+2 and got 5;)

could sworn you said

SwissTony 28 September 2015 02:41 PM

keyword is almost :brickwall

Cant say I have been caught out by these new silent pumps as I just stare at the pump anyway to check I am using the correct fuel and it has started.

So what?

The first comment was the telling one: it's probably a scam as it happens WAY too often.....

By far the worst stupidy is that some Shell garages position the V-Power petrol and V-Power diesel pumps side by side with practically identical livery. You can't fit the diesel nozzle into a petrol tank (I know, I tried just once ) but I bet petrol has found its way into plenty of diesel cars. Shell need a kick up the backside for that one

I've had it at 2-3am with an intimidating pair of white chavs sitting at a petrol station with a bunch of Vicky Pollards in the back seats. I recognised one of the boy yoofs. He's a local dysfunct whose mother was eventually successful to get him some sort of diagnosis label to make her own life easier, but that's no excuse for his continued chavvery. They were even smoking a funny, shareable fag inside their car at the petrol pump! Alas, the self-pay thingy at the pump was broken (probably vandalised by those chavs or alike). Luckily the 7-11 shop bit had a 24hr night shifter efnic yoof stuck in (got to be either a suicide bomber or an illegal immigrant) serving from behind his secure (in appearance) window. I have to say that he looked quite vulnerable on his tod with those chavs and chavettes ganging about in his compound. Not sure if he rang the coppers, because I did one after paying for my fuel. For the time I was there, I was on the alert, and if any of them came near me to bully me, I surely would have battered them with my mighty hand bag

Regarding pumps, I don't mind them being silent. What I don't like is that the Tesco pumps don't have the touch screen function. I keep touching YES or NO on the screen whereas there are obvious keys under the screen for the purpose. They need to upgrade.

I didn't say all whites are chavs, you numptie! There're chavs among blacks and browns and pinks and even yellows, you know. Chavvery doesn't discriminate.

I take it all back. Those new pumps may be silent but at least they are fast.
I was at my local Tesco today & the old pump was pleasantly noisy but painfully slow.

Lillyart14 01 October 2015 05:18 AM

Here's what I do:

Pull up at a Tesco fuel station, get out, insert card and follow on-screen instructions, lift momentum 99 nozzle, insert into car, wait until authorised, give it a few, quick squeezes so fuel flows nicely, fill up car, replace nozzle, drive off.

If anyone is having trouble with that, I suggest you buy an electric car or a push-bike lol
