Knocking from rear O/S at low speed
My 2005 Blobeye has developed an annoying clonking sound from the rear when driving very slowly over uneven road surfaces. Someone told me it was likely to be the drop-link ? There's no noticeable handling problems, just a 'donk donk' when crawling.

Strut failure almost certainly. Could be DL if you're lucky though.
Stand with your back to the wheel that you think is knocking and grip the underside of the wheel arch with your fingertips. Lift gently and the car will jerk upwards if the strut has failed. Solution? Grease it (search for it) or fit replacements. |
Knocking rear suspension - the answer
My new shock absorbers (expensive ones) had failed in less than a year. I had replaced the originals which were still working at 120,000 miles !
One of the new shocks was flexing in the middle and the other was leaking oil. I don't do any off-roading or non-standard driving. Replaced by my Subaru Specialists in warranty, phew! |
What brand of shocks were the ones that failed?
