Possible ecu (syvecs) power issue.

Hello,

A long story short, or not, my syvecs equipped type r cut out a few weeks back on the side of the M4, with the fuel pump failing to start. After being recovered, the sodding thing fired up, only to cut out on the way to work a few days later, again with no sound from the pump but it does crank.

Fuel pump and crank sensor have been replaced and the alarm/immobiliser are no longer an issue.

A local auto electrician has had a look, tested the fuel pump, pump relay and the wiring from the ecu, all ok. However, no output was found from the syvecs for the pump. He believes that it appears that the ecu isnt powering up. Unfortunately, as he was doing me a favour and fitting it in between jobs he had to leave it there.

Any ideas on what could be wrong will be great fully received, is there a relay/fuse between the ignition and the ecu?

Have you checked the connecting block for the fuel pump? There is a black connector under the rear bench seat which is prone to short out and melt, also the white connector on top of the fuel pump located on the top of the fuel tank, check the pins for corrosion

Yeah, They have both been checked and are fine.

pop over to http://www.syvecs.co.uk/forum/ and post up your problem mate, straight from the horses mouth

Could be shutting the fuel pump off due to issues somewhere, do you have syvecs software on your laptop, download ssuite from the syvecs website and check for faults something maybe triggering a saftey cut.

I've tried to link it to the laptop but it can't find a device. I'm not sure if that adds weight to the auto electrians idea of a lack of power to the ecu.

Tidgy thanks for the link, I'll put a thread on there.

Probably need to change to COM port setting to get it to talk too it, it will show you trigger faults in red so be able to diagnose it quickly.

Syvecs ssuite manual.

Thanks Jay I'll give it a go tomorrow.

No luck with that, any chance it could be the main ignition relay?

If you can't connect to the Syvecs with your laptop (via Ethernet - should be a cable there for it) - with the ignition on of course - then something basic is not right.

I would check the fuse for the ECU power and also that all the plugs are fully inserted in to the ECU.

If that all looks OK, a simple test meter will show whether you have power at the ECU or not. Not sure - off hand - where the ECU earth point is, but worth checking that too.

Tim, thanks for the information. The first thing I did was check the fuses and attempt to connect the laptop via Ethernet, with no joy.

Would you happen to know which wire should be the power supply. I do have a pinout but I'm guessing that it'll be one of the connector on the rear.

Bob Rawle has very kindly added ECU pinout information on his site - try here :thumb:

Check your firewall settings and turn wifi off it should connect, have to start up ssuite first then turn on ignition and then click on the connect tab

Quick update, the fuel pump primed, once. I'd refitted the battery after having to recharge it, on turning on the ignition the pump primed, then cranked but failed to start. Since then back to nothing. I've found an earth (a18 to right hand side of centre console behind the ashtray) but it appears to be good and still no joy connecting the laptop.

Which wire/pin should be the 12v supply, I've been looking at the wiring diagrams and syvecs pinout, but to be honest I've not got a clue.

Tidgy 22 September 2015 08:19 PM

Have you asked on the syvecs forum?

DogsofWar 23 September 2015 07:41 PM

Yeah, for some reason my account activation was dropped into my bulk mail, so took longer than it should but i now have a post on syvecs.

I've noticed that the toucan is starting up but all the gauges are zero, inc volts.
