Price of Diesel at the pumps?
For years it was always 5-6p per litre DEARER than 95 octane.
Now it's 2-3p CHEAPER. Can anyone explain? |

Is that it? Just falling demand? And it SUDDENLY drops 7p a litre? Can't accept that.

Same process to manufacture, same basic cost of raw materials and no change in tax for diesel fuel against petrol |

Can you think of anything else that has changed that only affects diesel prices alone whilst not impacting upon petrol.

Logic would suggest diesel is cheaper to produce because it is less refined than petrol
The diesel revolution began late 90's, prices rapidly climbed and tax increased. I am not aware that the government has reduced the tax levy on diesel. The government announces that diesel is the new scourge on health. All of a sudden there is a price shift. I can only surmise that many people are ditching diesels cars for small engine turbo petrol vehicles and hybrids. |

To my understanding it is slowly down of industry in China that is having a big effect. Most equipment used diesel so there a stock pile in the middle east is getting ever bigger.

Interesting. It's been €0.12 a litre cheaper in France for ever.

Just to add more fuel to the fire

Most diesel is refined in Europe (the UK only has 6 diesel fuel refineries). As the Eurozone continues to crumble, Sterling continues to strengthen against the euro and we end up with cheaper diesel at the pumps.
It's likely to get cheaper still based on current exchange rate trends, especially if the UK raised rates. |
