Roll cage clarification

Morning lads,
Looking to order a clubman spec weld in roll cage for my 2005 wrx.

I'm having trouble locating one though. They all seem to be for gc8 or a full international spec one for the new age. Any ideas on who or where will supply one?

Thanks

Captainfunbags 26 August 2015 05:37 PM

I've just checked Custom and they don't seem to list one ???

Have you called them ?

Hangarrat93 26 August 2015 05:46 PM

funbags, Ive had my welder call them and waiting to hear back. also had 2 or 3 suppliers call them and waiting to hear back aswell but its not looking promising. Wish The classic cage would fit haha

Captainfunbags 26 August 2015 05:49 PM

How about TEG Sport or ADGE Speed

Quick Google brought this up but never heard of them and with it being 92-07 I suspect it will be quite a 'generic' fit

Teg and adge look to me like fitters more than suppliers but I'll give them a ring in the morning.

I came across that one at corby motorsport, I did have my mind set on a weld in one though. Think the bolt in would be just as good?

Captainfunbags 26 August 2015 06:23 PM

They must be being supplied by somebody though ? be surprised if they are doing scratch cages.

Weld in would be stronger supposed it depends on what the car is destined for

Aye true enough unless they're all t45 crazy expensive cages. Will find out when I call them I guess.

Car is destined for superlap scotland and a few other events next year. All round track slag / weekend racer really.

I enquired with RCM as I want a multi point bolt in but safety devices on do one for a gc8 not newage spec c so it will need cutting and re-welding me thinks :(

I thought this may be the case. Wonder why there isn't one on the market? I'd assume there was a decent demand for one.

Funnily I spoke to Matty about this after seeing those two at the last event and no where seems to carry them :(

Why not get a bolt in cage?

There are pros and cons to both of them to be honest. I personally would go for a correctly fitted bolt in.

What's the reasons behind this? I've found a bolt In that I'd be happy with it think so I could be swayed to just go for it

You have this option for a weld in

http://www.safetydevices.com/motorsp...roof/461/1283/

And this for a bolt in

http://www.safetydevices.com/motorsp...roof/459/1283/

I have the bolt in one in my classic and its a pain to fit but once in its excellent.

I am pretty sure scoobyclinic are one of the few suppliers, that's where I got mine

Thanks for that arch, the weld in one isn't kicking the arse off of 1500 quid if I'm right and that's before fitting. I know your shouldn't put a price on safety but being Scottish I seemed to have managed that haha. I think I've found a good bolt in 8 point cage that I'll phone about tomorrow.

Looking at your login do you work at Prestwick?

Based there aye. Doing some travelling around and working in girona for the summer though :)

Why do ye ask?

Arch 28 August 2015 10:38 PM

LOL Its not hard to work out, from Ayrshire and your username. I assume Ryanair? I know a few of the lads working there. I will be heading down to Prestwick myself with Bristow in October when our SAR hangar is complete.

Very good deduction Mr homes haha. Will you be staying locally and are you an engineer or part of the search and rescue team?

Arch 28 August 2015 11:47 PM

Engineer, don't need to move I am from Glasgow anyway.

Aw ideal. Well I'll see ye across the runway or on the bypass ;)

giz1978 29 August 2015 03:35 PM

i use bolt in and they are fine and rolled a car with a bolt in and lived
they are ok for uk events

Arch 29 August 2015 09:09 PM

They are only ok if they are MSA certified, if you get scrutineered and they ask for the certification details and you don't have it you wont be competing.

If he's running in road going he doesn't need a cage so an MSA cert is irrelevant, but the cage will have to be fitted correctly and safely. Most big cage manufacturers cages are MSA certified so should be ok.

Good advice though Arch.

I always took all the paperwork/receipts etc about any of my fitted kit with me just in case a scrute got a bit arsey but they were all ok and very knowledgeable about it all so never had any problems.

Arch 30 August 2015 11:32 PM

100% right ref cage in terms of not being needed for road going class, but if its fitted my understanding is it needs to be certified hence why having a cage fabricated that isn't certified can cause issues. If you go down that route you need to keep the certs from the material supplier showing spec, wall thickness etc etc and even then it may not get passed.

Aye this seems like alot more hassle than its worth and not an idea i had entertained. Ive found a multipoint bolt in cage which is fia annex j approved. This will be fitted by scott mcminn motorsport who is a dab hand with a welder and has fitted cages to numerous rally and race cars.

Hangarrat93 31 August 2015 12:22 AM

Unfortunately im not eligible for road going series as car is completely stripped with 1 seat and harness. this would have made life a bit simpre and in hind sight is probably the route id have went down.

can i ask which race series or events you enter arch & rescue dude

Hangarrat93 31 August 2015 12:25 AM

Here is the cage that I've settled with; any last thoughts before I buy it?

I used to run a Pug 205 in hillclimbs and sprints in road going but I've been involved in motorsport in one way or another for over 35 years.
