Buyers Beware WR1 on eBay, please share

Hi Guys,

I would like to give anyone interested in this Subaru WR1 on eBay a heads up.

2004 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI WR1 BLUE + 8 MONTHS MOT+ 79K + SPARES & REPAIRS

I won this car last weekend under the impression all it needed was an engine repair (I'm a vehicle technician of 11 years) and upon making the 400 mile round trip, found the car to be massively misadvertised, every panel apart from the boot and roof had been badly re sprayed, the rear arches were full of body filler with corrosion coming through as well, corrosion coming through above the windscreen, none of the panels fit correctly apart from the boot lid, the front bumper and offside front door had come off a darker blue Subaru as could be seen at the edges of the bumper and the door, the headlights were hanging out, it looked as though the near side chassis leg was bent judging by how the front wings had been fit and there was a big patch of weld on the near side front sill and floor from a bad crash repair, overall the car was not safe to be on the road. I'm not quite so sure where the superb condition as it was described comes from to describe this car, the icing on the cake was when the seller told me he was selling this on behalf of his friend who had left the country!!! The seller had no v5 and expected me to take the car without one.

After I left negative feedback I have also received some quite nasty text messages which I will try and post up screenshots once I have edited them so as not to show his phone number.

I am well aware this happens pretty regularly on eBay but I am posting this to try prevent anyone from buying a lemon, thankfully I'm only £250 down instead of nearly £5500.

It would be greatly appreciated if this could be shared around other Subaru forums as well.

Many Thanks
Will

too many dodgy sellers these days

What a shame..! Doesnt look 'that bad' in pics. The no V5 issue may be due to a reg plate transfer as stated in the advert. It has a reg inside the car '30 WRX' ..?

That's a long trip to make.
To be honest the advert looks suspect, plus his feedback is no good either, hes sold a Golf Gti that was not as described and had numerous defects.
That would have rang alarm bells to me.

You can see enough from those pictures not to go near it, door gaps to rear arches, O/S/R wheel is not central to the arch, as the N/S/R is.

Is it even an sti?

Could be a replica, you never know without log book.

An sti should have blue carpet not black. I think its a wrx.

Berks-Jack 15 August 2015 01:50 PM

There was a wrx being sold as a wrx last year that got posted on here, that still had a 5 speed and 4 pots from memory. That paint job looks terrible though.

WR1'S had black seats I can't remember if they had a matching carpet or had the blue sti carpet.

Guessing you mean WRX being sold as an STI?

Haha I meant wr1. My phone either autocorrected it or I mistyped it. I'll blame the phone ;)

Benji554 15 August 2015 03:44 PM

30 WRX is currently registered to a WR1. :wonder:

Dont the wr1's have the black face defi style speedo with red illumination? That one has a stock sti speedo.

rb5 stu 15 August 2015 07:49 PM

It just says wr1 blue. So a wrx painted in that colour would be my guess.

south_scoob 16 August 2015 01:51 AM

Why are you £250 down?

At a guess, the £100 deposit (might be able to get that back, if it was paid by paypal) and the 400 mile round trip.

Pretty sure these didn't turn up on UK cars until the Hawkeye.

black sets and grey carpets in wr1, and no sweeping dials in dash green backlit on wr1

jaygsi 27 August 2015 02:03 AM
