oil consuption problem / oil leak from boost solonoid
Hi guys, have a 2007 fully forged 2.5 impreza STi running around 400 bhp.
Have owned the car for around a year and its always gone through a lot off oil, but only under hard driving. Once driven hard and engine switched off and cooled down, a large puff off blue smoke comes out exhaust so I installed an oil catch can but this did nothing as I thought excessive oil may be seeping into intake manifold. Noticed there is a lot of oil seeping through the boost solenoid under full boost. my mechanic thinks there could be an oil line in the turbo (SC42) which is too large and is flooding the turbo? Had a compression test and leak down test down and all is good so not a bad piston. Car still pulls and drives fine minus the oil consumption problem Can anyone please shine some light on this problem! Cheers Lewis |

anyone got any ideas?!

Have you had the turbo checked? Could have also been badly run in bores may be glazed

what does he mean too large an oil line in the turbo?

Thanks for the replies guys.
Turbo is coming off next week for an inspection, it has already been replaced under warranty by the previous owner and my mechanic thinks there is some oil line in there which is the wrong diameter for the turbo, not sure if he means the oil return line or what. He has a 700 bhp Subaru Track car and said he said he had the same problem so fingers crossed it this. |
My lm450 turbo had a restriction fitted to the oil line to reduce flow so yeh could be a possibility

Was giving it some today and I noticed a puff of smoke come up from the engine bay once stopped. Lifted the bonnet and noticed oil around the turbo burning off with the heat.
Something's really not right with the car and it's definitely the turbo. Could this be blown seals? Drove the car home and it seemed absolutely fine, even when tickling the throttle and coming slightly into boost. Am really hoping it's not new turbo time |
Last thing you want to be doing is driving your car on boost while you have an issue with the turbo oil supply, just asking for a mega meltdown!

Yea I know pal. It's off the road now until I get the garage to look at it. Praying it's not a knackered turbo and just a gasket or cracked line
