hi all newbie here looking for a subaru anyone know this car and thoughts please

very much appreciated

Tidgy 06 August 2015 03:06 PM

Unmolested but running 310bhp? hows it go there form 276?

south_scoob 06 August 2015 03:28 PM

:lol1: its like when people write pulls like a train but it dont have a tow bar. They write stuff without knowing the meaning or theyve seen it in other adds

yabbadoo4 06 August 2015 03:38 PM

to be fair to the owner he will be quoting subarus claimed bhp figure for the ppp pack.

maca1 06 August 2015 04:10 PM

Just don't know anything about them to be fair hence me coming on here to try to get some ideas on what to look out for

yabbadoo4 06 August 2015 04:26 PM

it looks a nice example bud. the prodrive performance pack according to subaru gives circa 300bhp but some dispute that it does give that figure hence why tidgy made the comment he did. take someone knowledgeable with you if your having a look at it. usual rules apply with any car your buying but listen for engine knock, a type of metallic rattle from the engine when revved. also a knocking or clunking noise from the rear shocks, another known issue with the sti suspension. subarus need regular oil changes so look for proof of regular servicing also.

Cheers for the info yabbadoo4 this is the sort of thing I need what to look for on the Subaru common problems much appreciated maca

Facelift boot lid on a earlier car, unmolested yet it's got a mushroom filter, VTA DV, turbo timer would make me slightly suspicious and it's his girlfriends car (is she illiterate).
As Tidgy said take someone who knows Subaru's and check everything.

what about this one guys

plenty 06 August 2015 06:46 PM

A 2004 blob STi and a 2005 hawk WRX are very different cars...

Take your time and read up, decide what model you really want...there's a wealth of info online.

yabbadoo4 06 August 2015 08:21 PM

although that hawk looks quite tidy it has the 2.5 engine which has issues with ringland failure. google around or search on here and read up a bit on it. also for your budget id be wanting an sti to future proof any mods you might make when the power bug bites as the sti is a better base for future mods although a wrx is fine if your not going down that route. the sti has better brakes (4 pot brembos) tho and has avcs (kinda like v-tech on honda,s or variable valve timing) plus a 6 speed box and lots of other uprated parts. a lot will depend on if its a daily driver or a weekend toy or a garage queen. spend a few nights on here reading posts and get the info you need. theres plenty of threads on which is the better car wrx or sti ( its the sti :norty:) although some might not like the firmer ride of the sti suspension etc. theres also the issue of classic versus newage car as well so plenty to think about :D
go do some reading !

The Trooper 1815 06 August 2015 08:27 PM

Or buy a Newage JDM WRX.

maca1 06 August 2015 08:31 PM

Cheers for the info guys it's nice to have some people that know about these and what there talking about I will do some reading but thinking Sti myself from what I've read so far

yabbadoo4 06 August 2015 08:41 PM

as the trooper has said if you want a cherry on top there,s also the jdm models to consider.

Here we go again...just like Whitesnake but with bigger hair and a gimp called South_scoob

kevo10 07 August 2015 08:51 AM

Dont forget about rusty rear arches as well. A common problem, even with newer models

maca1 07 August 2015 10:53 AM

Will look out for this didn't know that they suffered from rusty rear arch thanks

Tidgy 07 August 2015 11:03 AM

All scoobs suffer from it, when you see it on the outside of the arch it's a big repair, they go from the inside out, so once it's visible it will be a mess behind it

maca1 07 August 2015 11:21 AM

What about the wax hatch not heard much about them any good intone have one

New age means 2001 onwards, eg. Bugeye, Blobeye, Hawkeye, etc. The Bug and Blob (2001-2006) have 2.0L engines, which are considered excellent. The Hawk and anything later (2006-) have 2.5L engines, which are not highly regarded.

JDM means Japanese Domestic Market. Basically, an import. JDM cars, even Hawks and hatches, retain the 2.0L engine.
