PPP downpipe
Hi. Can some one send me a picture regarding a 03 blob sti downpipe compared to the ppp downpipe. Thanks.
I'm sure I have the ppp downpipe and 2nd decat fitted so before I go and buy one could someone send me a picture of the standard dp. Many thanks. John. |
Just google it. Plenty of pics of both.

I have googled it but I think I'm being thick. Am I right in saying the standard downpipe has a shield as the prodrive dp has the heat blanket?
|
The first prodrive cats had no heat shield I believe, the later ones did like these ones.

Ah okay thanks I'm pretty sure I have the ppp downpipe and 2nd decat. I also had the prodrive back box which I replaced with a vortex afterburner and de resonated middle pipe.
My only concern is my blob sti isn't the ppp version.... so I'm hoping the previous owner had it mapped to suit. Also i's it normal for my boost gauge to read almost 20psi... it reads about 14.5 psi when first hitting boost but then around after the 5000rpm range it goes to about 20psi... could this be boost creep? Thanks again. |
20 psi is too high for a standard car. Should be about 1.1 bar peak (16psi) so could be a faulty actuator.
|
Is that just a case of fitting a new turbo actuator? Can a faulty actuator cause damage... thanks.
|
Might even just need the boost solenoid cleaning. My old car used to do the same thing, it would spike like crazy until I cleaned it out. But yeah that boost does sound high for a std car.
|
Ah okay I'll have a go at cleaning the solenoid later after work.
Am I going to do much damage driving around with a ppp turbo back system on... I was going to buy a prodrive downpipe and on having a look it already has one fitted... so hopefully it's been mapped to suit!? I'm going to hopefully be getting a remap in a couple of months. Thanks. John. |
Crawled under my car and got a pic of my downpipe.. sure it's a prodrive?

Looks like a first edition yeah.
Do the easy things like BCS before replacing the actuator. If you have a compressed air line, you can test the actuator with between 0.7 and 0.9 bar. Plenty of YouTube vids on testing them. |
+1 - looks like a prodrive pipe with the heat blanket around it. Is there anywhere local you can go to have the map checked as 5 minutes with the laptop could save you a lot of hoking around and guessing at things?
|
There should be a couple of places to go get it checked. Just been out for a spin and when WOT the boost gauge sits just under 20psi. I've cleaned the boost solenoid and no crap what so ever came out. , the carb cleaner ran clear... the car doesn't seem as powerful as when I first got it, it use to feel like it chucked you into the back of the seat but I don't seem to get that anymore... since I've owned it all I've done is changed the baileys bov and put a standard one on and put a Un resonated cat back vortex afterburner on.
Maybe I'm just use to the power now but the boost gauge is definitely not right. |
